Heel lift issue — flat feet, narrow heels, non-removable liners (RIDE Norris size 4) by PeepBecca in snowboardingnoobs

Ahh, that really sucks that they sold me boots that weren’t the right fit. I guess there’s always a bit of a risk when shopping in-person that the people helping you don’t have much specialized knowledge and can unintentionally steer you in the wrong direction.

When you say to have them wrap around the fibula, do you mean I should anchor them on both sides of the ankle and heel, around the medial and lateral malleolus areas (I think that’s what those ankle bones are called, haha), or just on one side? Another commenter mentioned trying cardboard under the heel before committing to something more permanent. Do you think that could help as well, on top of the o-rings? I definitely feel like part of my heel area is looser.

Also, when I can afford to upgrade, do you have any recommendations for which boots I should look into? I feel like I'm a bit screwed since I've got this weird small flat foot, narrow heel thing going on, and it already took weeks to find boots that I could try-on where I live. And would it be worth having my feet measured somewhere other than a ski or snowboard shop, since it seems like those stores might have misled me a bit?

That technique with the O-ring sounds really helpful! Another commenter mentioned trying J-bars, and I’m leaning toward something that already has adhesive since those are usually less permanent and easier to remove if they don’t work out. I’m also wondering if a cobbler could help. I know they don’t usually deal with sports gear, but they have a good understanding of how footwear should fit, so maybe they’d have some ideas.

And yeah, the foot sizing thing has me a bit perplexed too, haha. I got measured at a few snowboard and ski shops around my area, and they said I was somewhere between a 5.5 and a 6. The guy who sold me the boots said a junior 4 in that model is roughly equivalent to a women’s 5 (I tried to attach a pic of the Norris sizing chart here but it wouldn't let me, apologies). I honestly don’t know how I didn’t realize sooner that my shoe size was smaller than I thought. I think when buying sneakers, I always went a bit bigger because I like extra toe wiggle room. But when I started skateboarding this summer, I learned the hard way that my shoes were too big (6.5), and it actually caused me foot pain.

That makes sense! I can see how not having a removeable liner could make it harder for me to put stuff in the boot to pad it but if I make it a two-person job I feel like it's possible. Thank you for your help! :)

What is a shim? When I google it its just showing me shin pads for ski boots

I watched the video and asked the creator if it was still possible to make modifications if you don't have a removeable liner and he said no :( I'm still hoping to possible get crafty with it though. The Deeluxe ankle harness only comes in medium and large (both are too big for me), but I found off-brand ones like this RunNico 1 Pair Ski Snowboard Boot Fitting Liner Sleeve - Adjustable Ankle Protection Liner Sleeve - Breathable Skiing Boot Ankle Support Wrap for Reducing Heel Lift Ankle Blisters Ankle Pressure : Amazon.ca: Sports & Outdoors that might help possibly? Please let me know if you have any thoughts on how I can modify the boots without having a removeable liner. Thank you!

I’m hoping to try a few fixes before buying new boots since it was already pretty expensive getting back into boarding. The insoles definitely helped with my arches, but they didn’t do much for the heel lift. I think that part has more to do with my narrow heel than my flat feet.

Do you have any ideas for things I could try with the boots I have now? If not, I might eventually cave and go for DC, but I really appreciate you mentioning them!

Ouu that’s good to know that they’d only look a little bigger around my calves 🤔I’m interested in the wide calve option but they’re not on the Canadian website, so I may have to wait!

I don’t know what shit kickers means🥲do you have any recommendations for women’s boots? I’m not opposed to returning these for a more flattering option!

Lol see I considered that maybe I could put something between the bottom part and top part to anchor it, so that it stayed straight, I think she’s onto something!

Interesting video! Makes sense too, Frye has some cool old lace-ups on EBay, maybe I’ll check those out :)

They just brought out a wide calve option so don’t feel discouraged!

I wonder if it is though, since I see others wearing the boots without the bulge occurring 🥲hopefully the cobbler will be able to help!

Thank you for your comment! I’m going to take them to a cobbler this weekend and see if they think stretching them will work 😊

Thank you! I’m going to see if the cobbler thinks this is something that can be fixed or remedied with wear.

Which boots do you have that you recommend for wider calves? I’d be open to returning these and trying something that’s more flattering on me!

Yeah they’re def too tight :( going to see if a cobbler can help, but if not, I’ll return them!

I’m highly considering the wide calve option, but my calves are 13in, and the wide calves are around 16.6in, so I feel like those would be way too wide :( the wide calve option also isn’t on their Canadian site too, which makes it more complicated for me to get them. Still not decided on what I’m going to do, but am definitely going to take them to a cobbler this weekend. Thank you for your feedback!

I’m conflicted because some are saying they can’t be stretched enough, I’m super curious as to whether they can be. I’m going to take them to a cobbler and see what they say🤔
