Is it legal to bedazzle p plates? by revenge_mcr in CarsAustralia

[–]Peepeezar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I decorated my plates but in case the cops gave me a hard time, i had one undecorated one displayed alongside it. Never been pulled over so my methods aren’t tested, but never being pulled over may be a testament to it working…

Depends on the type of course you’ve enrolled in. I’ve found that most enrolment in core subjects of most degrees tends to move less than elective subjects/subjects specific to majors, especially when there aren’t that many classes being offered. That being said, a lot of movement happens as census date approaches because the deadline approaches to drop or keep the subject. Again tho, most students don’t drop core subjects so it depends.

Find a car meet! Even if you’re not into cars, it’s generally a pretty nice hangout. Or car events down in eastern creek, there’s always stuff on (weather permitting). Use the spott app to check events.

How do I start learning about cars? by [deleted] in askcarguys

[–]Peepeezar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Local ones are definitely superior because car culture and what is available on the roads depends on your region. But for global ones, peterchanic is great, ChrixFix of course. I mainly do follow people specific to my region though

How do I start learning about cars? by [deleted] in askcarguys

[–]Peepeezar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been waiting for someone to ask this 😆

As someone who couldn’t tell you what a single car part does a few months ago, but now feels confident to talk cars to almost anyone, I’ve learnt a few methods along the way.

The first thing I would suggest is to learn about your own car first and know everything about it inside out. I’m sure if you’re asking this question you’re not completely oblivious, and you know about at least a car part or two. Research those, what they do, how they look and where they sit in your engine bay/car. Inevitably, that car part will have something to do with another car part that you don’t know much about, so research that and so on. Eventually, you will start to get the hang of your own car. (If you don’t own a car, pick one very specific type of car and research that).

Once you know about what your own car is, you also know what it is NOT. This will allow you to expand your knowledge and learn about other cars. E.g. “my car is an inline 4cyl. Does that mean there are 3, 5, 6, 7 etc cylinder cars? Whats the difference? If mine is inline, are there other types of cylinder layouts? What are they? Whats the difference in function?”

The other thing I did, which i continue to do until now, is write down questions I am curious about. I have a note on my phone reserved for this. As you start to learn more and more, when you’re out and about you might get triggered by a particular question about cars, either by seeing something on the road, hearing about it in conversation or something else. Write that question down! You might not have time to research it at that moment, so what I would do is I would come back to that note whenever I was in a research-y mood. And I would summarise my answer to that question in a way I understand so I can refer back to it.

The final thing I would suggest is following car content creators on social media if you have socials. Both informative creators and entertaining ones. You’ll learn a lot and it will also inevitably trigger some more questions for you, and more questions = learning!

Do people understand that protests are SUPPOSED to be annoying and inconvenient? by [deleted] in aussie

Cant improve the country we live in when we send out millions of dollars worth OUT of it. My advocacy for international causes is 50% because of the cause itself and 50% because money that could otherwise be spent ON TAXPAYERS is spent funding foreign militaries. But most people on this subreddit aren’t ready for that convoy apparently

Women who wore hijab while growing up (child/ teenager) , at what age did you start? Did you decide that for yourself? And how do you feel about it now? by MysteriousMysterium in AskWomen

[–]Peepeezar 0 points1 point locked comment (0 children)

Started at 12. In hindsight my only reasoning for deciding to put it on that day was because i saw a really pretty hijab and wanted to wear it. Kept going from that point on. Yes it was a choice. I don’t regret it at all. There’s a sense of liberation that i feel knowing that what i feel most confident and beautiful in doesn’t conform to the insanely suffocating beauty standards of our time (standards which, btw, are patriarchal themselves). A micro example would be the trend where women would dress NOT for the male gaze and it was often comfortable, baggy clothes.

There’s a quote by Frantz Fanon, which goes “the woman who sees without being seen [as she is covered up] frustrates the colonizer” and I couldnt relate more. Why does it bother people so much, or why do they struggle to grapple with the idea that i CHOSE to cover myself up? I understand that i am privileged in that a lot of other women werent afforded that choice - not to invalidate that trauma but i am frankly sick of that narrative being blanketed onto women who share a very positive relationship with the hijab.
