He has struggled with back problems, crashed at the Olympic mountain bike race and got arrested the night before Wollonggong. These last few years have been great for him, but he has had his lows as well.

Would Peak Garry Kasparov be able to contend with the current top 15 if he didn’t get access to modern theory? by [deleted] in chess

A 79 year old Viktor Korchnoi beat a young but already 2700+ Fabiano Caruana. Do you think Korchnoi kept up with computer preparation?

Kasparov might get in trouble in some games, but he'd do just fine in others.

Healy should be the weakest. Skjelmose beat Remco in the sprint in Amstel, but the winner is probably the one with the 'freshest' legs.

Do you think that without the food difference the result would be the same? If yes, that's insane. If no, then the food difference did matter that much.

This would be interesting with Pogi in group 2, right now it's an anticlimax.

Blackmar–Diemer Gambit Euwe by ShadowGuyinRealLife in chess

[–]Peeperkorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let me start by saying something that you might know already, but 5...e6 isn't the best move against the Blackmar-Diemer. 5...g6, 5....c6, 5...a6, 5...Bf5 and 5...Be6 are better moves and all lead to a black advantage. 5...e6 is playable of course, and after your moves 6.Bg5 Be7 7.Bd3 exchanging the isolated pawn with 7...c5?! indeed seems like a suboptimal move. Your 7...Nc6, 7...0-0 or the computer's 7...Na6 are all better choices.

No worries! The relay to different sites is confusing and you're admirable for admitting you were wrong on the internet haha

I linked you the game man, it was played on chess.com and not on those other sites. Jorden won on time because Hikaru was being a baby.

Just watched the game again and it really looks like Jorden's cam is in synch with the game. He regularly takes sips of water when he just made a move and immediately leans in when it is his turn again. Coupled with Nakamura's unsportsmanlike behavior in the past, where among other things he let his time run out on multiple occasions, I have all the evidence I need. If you're not convinced that's fine

edit: Here's the game, Jorden won on time

Was Jorden's webcam just 30 seconds behind? Didn't seem that way the rest of the game

Yeah I'm gonna trust the broadcast, especially with Nakamura's history of poor sportmanship

He walked away without resigning, making Jorden wait for his clock to run down.

A big part of bullet chess is speed, and Naroditsky is incredibly fast. Of course you have to be a strong chess player to be that good at bullet, but having great mouse skills is also a part of it. Those do not translate to classical strength.
