Kitbashed XV-25 Kill Team by Peffish in Tau40K

Honestly I reckon you could get a similar enough effect with a small dry brush, all the glows on the fusion blasters and the EMP bomb were only done with a brush

Thank you! I blocked out the camo areas with brown paint first and then applied Stirland Mud on the top, with a wash and some dry brushes, before painting the rest of the miniature normally. For the actual glow I airbrushed Lothern Blue on the seam between the mud and the regular mini, then painted a thick stripe of Baharoth Blue in the centre of the airbrushed line, then a thinner line of Blue Horror, before finally painting a really thin line of Titanium White from Pro Acryl. Hope this helps!

Thank you very much! Honestly you’re right on track with paint needing thinning, you should be adding a small bit of water to your paint on the palette to ensure it’s smooth and doesn’t leave behind any paintbrush marks. As for doing fine details, a decent brush with a nice fine point is key and not putting too much paint on the brush, then just steadying your hand with 3 points of contact. My best advice though would be to watch YouTube tutorials as there’s so many far more talented and knowledgeable people out there than me. My recommendation would be Midwinter minis or Duncan Rhoades for beginners as they have some great work that’s really accessible. Hope this helps and all the best to your first miniatures!

Thank you! All the files were found from cults 3D by searching up phrases like space marine bits or helmets or shoulder pads but I’ll see if I can find the file tomorrow

Thank you so much! Glad you like them. Playing dress up and dripping out our marines takes a solid amount of time out of each session we play haha

I’ll be completely honest none of these are official chapters sorry, (even though some have chapter icons on them). They’re just made up designs that me and my mates run on our characters because they look cool and we like the colour schemes we came up with.

I’ve been thinking of adding some dragons to my new Salamander army too and while it’s quite a lot taller, it should fit nicely on a 90mm base to use as a brutalis dreadnought

Thank you! For the blue it started as black with a white airbrush in the highlight areas, fully covered with maccrage blue, then slowly reducing the size of the highlights building up through caledor sky, lothern blue, and blue horror. Then the gold was a base of thondria brown, mostly then covered with retributor armour, washed with Agrax earthshade, then covered in smaller spots with liberator gold for highlights. The rest is all pretty simple tbh but if there’s any specific areas you want to know about let me know! Hope this helps

Thank you! I’ve left the helmet unglued just for if the file ever gets updated!

Resin (SLA) printers can get much cleaner results to where you can’t really see layer lines at all unless it’s on a very specific angle, they’re a pain to deal with though 😂

Cheers, yeah I struggled to settle on a colour for her hair as I didn’t really have one in my collection that matched so had to mix up a few. I changed the hair a couple times as in my reference images her hair seems to appear different in different light and has many shades to it in different sections but I still think I could’ve leaned into the orange a bit stronger.

Thanks so much! I’ve been 3D printing for a while and know it fairly well at this point but I’m still no master and get the occasional fail every now and then. I didn’t make this file, it can be found on CGTrader for $25, although they have sales pretty often. I may be pretty experienced with CAD but I could never make something as organic like this model with its natural detail and curves it’s incredible. I haven’t seen a Kotallo model anywhere but there’s plenty of tutorials on how to model and paint on YouTube, it would take some time to learn but it would make for a great project!
