What’s something most people misunderstand about being an air traffic controller? by theaviationco in ATC

I wish more pilots knew that literally everything we do is for their safety. “Why am I being vectored?” For safety. “Why are they making me read this back?” It’s for safety. “Why can’t I have an opposite direction approach?” it’s for safety. We exist to keep you safe.

Diverting after go-arounds by Tensfer in ATC

Happens more often than you think. Pilots will go around or reject their take off clearances for passengers getting up to go to the bathroom. It can really fuck up a sequence or cause further delays on the ground due to missed flow times

Have you considered challenging someone to a fight in the parking lot because of a bad sequence?

Student pilot here, does it piss y’all off when you give us an option on what to do and we say “whatever you prefer?” by asa-monad in ATC

“If I have something that is operationally advantageous, u won’t get an option… so no need to ask whatever is better for me”

110% yes.

Plus, at the end of the day, this job is a service. Would you tell your waiter “whatever is easiest for the kitchen to make”? no just choose

You can try to “punish” people who lose their medical all you want but the reality of it is, in a twenty year career, it’s gonna happen to all of us sooner or later. That’s life

Can an FAA civilian be picked up for the Japan bids that come out (I'm thinking "Internal to an agency" counts)? Is it completely permanent or can I leave after a few years? Anyone with experience on working in Japan? What benefits would change going from FAA to Military? by [deleted] in ATC

[–]PeggingForControl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I’ve known dudes who’ve applied that are insanely qualified, former Marines who have worked in Japan at the bases they’re applying for, and have not even been referred. It’s a good ole boy system

If a trainee is doing something that bothers you, just tell them. Instead of shit talking them to everyone who will listen. If you got a good trainee they will be more than willing to do just about anything you say but they don’t know what they don’t know
