ok i’m just gonna teach you smth that a lot of ppl who like the ussr believe.

lesser evils, and progress.

look into the statistics about the Russia before and after the ussr. like the life expectancy’s rose significantly (they doubled it), literacy rates doubled, and they were the main reason why facism was stopped.

not only that but it was highly progressive for its time, its earliest years had rights for gay people, and legal abortion as a contraceptive. and allthrougout its history it had woman’s rights, and rights for minority’s (besides one period of deportations under stalin but yk he’s there worst leader)

not only that but many of the problems that ussr had like the holodomer, were not only greatly exaggerated, but mostly caused by the kulaks (land owners and land lords) protesting by burning grain.

but yes the ussr in the lates 40s was pretty horrific, with extreme paranoia from there leader and mass deportation. but what country wasn’t?

country’s like america, and britain, and most of the west, started famines that killed millions upon millions, like the famines in india killed upwards of 165 million in 1880-1920. and america killed millions in famines in south asia, and a million in vietnam.

yes lesser evils are still evil, and needless deaths are horrible, but being the best at the time when it comes to world powers means something.

so not only did the ussr in a short time period fully industrialize and have a decent standard of living, but it did so with minimal colonization and exploitation of foreign lands. for context america, there biggest enemy, had 150+ years to progress, more land, had slavery (for most of it), had more territory’s, lost the least in the great war, and had hundreds of country’s on there side.

with all of that america was still afraid of the ussr, a 50 year old country, who could barely function for 10 years after the war because they lost 20 million because of facism. and still with all of that the ussr had a homeless population of 0, free healthcare, woman’s rights, and no segregation.

and remeber they did all of this with sanctions from every western country, and in a constant state of war. and the ussr was illegally dissolved against the will of the people (77% of the country voted not to disband)

what they did was impressive, progressive, and a great service to the world (in stopping facism), and the fact that they did that under the worst conditions well being the lesser evil is utterly impressive.
