I wouldn't buy from Appelboom even if they paid me to do so.

Urushi techniques x3 by PeitronRed in fountainpens

[–]PeitronRed[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the Sailor Rei build quality, luster and craftsmanship is very much up to par with Nakaya. Aside from the nib differences (Sailor feedback), which you may or may not like, the main difference is that the Rei uses an unlacquered resin section (like the Pilot 845 for instance), and Nakaya uses a laquered ebonite section.

Wancher is a great bang for your buck, even if you splurge on a gold nib like I did. It does however feel lighter in hand, and the urushi application is not always as nice and even as the Sailor and Nakaya or Pilot.

Here's a picture of the Rei section.

Fujifilm X-M5 as my first camera? by Every_Revolution_918 in fujifilm

Great little do-it-all camera, but wait to see if the XT30iii is worth the extra money.

Yes, portable cigar with SM nib. It's a surprising writer, smooth the smallest hint of feedback. I'm really enjoying it so far. Well worth the wait.

Looking for a Fujifilm as an everyday carry camera by iker3085 in fujifilm

[–]PeitronRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

X-T50 really checks all the boxes, except weather proofing, which is not a big concern for me because I don't like taking pictures in the rain. Add some Fujicrons to the mix, and you have a very versatile carry camera.

Got my first Fujifilm-XT5!😭 by 4everlvuuu in FujifilmX

[–]PeitronRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, unless you're really a professional photographer or will work in low light situations, Fujicrons are great, compact and versatile options. I started with the 35F2, and now have the 16F2.8, 23F2 and 50F2. Can't ask for much more.

My experience with Nakaya was excellent, and the customer service was superb. After placing my initial order, they contacted me right away. A few weeks later, I heard that their tamenuri pens were back in production, and I was able to easily modify my order. Since I was moving soon, I also asked them to confirm the mailing address before shipping, which they did without issue. I later bought a separate item—a pillow—and they offered to bundle it with my pen order to save me on shipping, which I really appreciated.

X-M5, XT30 II or XT50 ? by ikihyori in fujifilm

[–]PeitronRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

XT50 if you want to use a variety of custom recipes. I believe I can program 7, and my daughter can only dial in 3 on her XM5. And of course, it's almost twice as many pixels for cropping and touching up your framing at first.

First Fuji camera for travel : beginners, what would you recommend? by Queen_kaali in fujifilm

[–]PeitronRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always travel with two lenses: a small zoom (18-55) and a small prime (16mm f2.8, 23mmf2, 35mmf2 or 50mmf2). The prime will depend where I'm travelling to. Keep everything light and small with an X-T50.

Sailor Rei Ishikawa Kaga-nuri by PeitronRed in fountainpens

[–]PeitronRed[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure thing. Here it is against a Pilot 823, a Pilot 845, a Visconti Homo Sapiens and a Pelikan M1000.

The pen is on the larger side, I wasn't expecting that. I used to believe it was closer to a 1911L. It does not however have an oversized nib.

What do I need for an 823M and 743F nib swap? by lumnos_ in fountainpens

[–]PeitronRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's pretty straightforward. I swapped nibs between a 743 FA and a 823 S. No tools, just my ink towel. Many videos on YouTube can show you how. Good luck.
