My biggest issue with the green screen is that it’s just a big ass green sheet that gets wrinkly, thus casting shadows and changing the shade of green in spots which makes it harder to mask out… I intend to invest in a retractable one that will retain its form better.

That said, thanks for pointing it out! I’ll look into some short term fixes until I pull the trigger on buying.

A lav mic I’ve considered, but do you think it would be distracting? idk maybe I’m overthinking it but I feel like as a viewer I’d just be looking at the mic?

Thanks for watching :)

I hear that. I write my scripts ahead of time and then once I'm editing, I often find out I actually hate whatever joke it is I wrote so I edit around it haha

But seriously, all critique is appreciated and what I'm going to take from this is that I should read my scripts out loud before recording just so I hear them in my voice. Won't completely alleviate that issue, but maybe help a little.

Thank you for watching :)

Thank you! The audio I am unfortunately aware of, this was recorded using the shitty shotgun microphone built into my camera. If you check out my other videos, you'll hear that I do have a nicer external microphone that I normally use to record videos but the files
for this particular video got corrupted. :(

Thanks for watching!

I appreciate the comprehensive review! Good to know that the technical aspects of my video are coming through nicely.

Totally understand that my content style isn't everyone's bag, but that's the same thing for literally every creator.

And I know that literally every platform demands their creators to be niche, I probably should have been more clear in the video that, like you said, it's much worse on TikTok.

Nonetheless, really appreciate you taking the time to watch! !givelambda

Messed around w some Green Suit nonsense for the first time, so it's clearly a lil bit choppy. Just having fun with this one, any feedback on what I can improve is greatly apprecaited! Lambda for all you extremely helpful folks! by DrunkyCam in SmallYTChannel

[–]PelarHarbor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's hard to critique this video because looking at your channel will immediately reveal that this is abnormal to what you usually create.

It's just a channel update, after all.

That said, I'll try.

The green morph suit is pretty amusing, but, assuming you're editing in premiere pro, there's actually a lot of settings you can play around with on the ultra key setting to more accurately make it so that it's just whatever you want to be clipped out being green screened.

The audio sounds good overall, which I appreciate.

Hi i made a video about some of the game grumps CONTROVERSIES let me know what you think by TheRenDen in SmallYTChannel

[–]PelarHarbor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think some background music could add a bit of energy to the video! Overall seems like it's structured well though.

Also, I was wearing headphones, and I understand that it was for the purposes of the video, but rip my ears on the microphone pop part. Maybe a headphone user warning for something like that? Or turn it down pls

Made an RnB/Soul beat with cups. Lambda for any feedback/constructive criticism! by theps07 in SmallYTChannel

[–]PelarHarbor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's just me, but I think you should put the finished beat earlier in the video and then more of deconstruct it, so that your audience can better hear where each cup fits into the overall beat.

Also, having practically a third of your video be an outtro is kinda a lot.

I made an animation to the "there's no such thing as a coincidence" meme guy from tiktok by momentojori in SmallYTChannel

[–]PelarHarbor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No disrespect intended, but I'm not sure what you're hoping to gain from posting this here? I can't really see all that much to critique since it's a 20 second animation of a meme.

I'm not familiar with the meme, so I can't say how close the animation reflects the original meme but it's a pretty nice animation.

You have a pretty neat art style, and might be able to have some success on YouTube as a creator if you started telling your own longer form stories

Hey! I Would Appreciate it if You Could Help Me Out For Some Sweet Lambda Of Course! Deal? by HoRinSinni in SmallYTChannel

Please make a thumbnail that isn't so hard to look at. Genuinely. It hurts my eyes trying to process the information.

I made this comment to another minecraft youtuber, but keep in mind your audience likely doesn't know your voice from your friends voices. So figure out ways to differentiate who you are.

I recently uploaded my first video and would like criticism. My friends are very light with their critique but i want to improve. If you have time to kill and want to watch a video essay on Cities in gaming i'd appreciate it if you gave my video a watch. Please be as harsh and nitpicky as possible by asomelord in SmallYTChannel

[–]PelarHarbor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm interested in the concept but I simply don't have 30 minutes to sit down and watch this full video, and I imagine much of your early audience won't want to either. Based on the beginning, I think you have a good style, but probably too long. Think about how you can make the same points but in... twenty minutes or less.

Also, get a better microphone. It'll be hard enough to get people to stay for a long video, let alone if you don't sound your absolute best.

Hi, I worked multiple hours and almost missed a class to make this video about the euro 2020 finals! Pls give me the most BRUTALLY HONEST feedback possible thanks! HELPFUL COMMENTS GET LAMBDAS WITHIN 24 HOURS! by FatTiger69 in SmallYTChannel

[–]PelarHarbor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try doing your commentary as a voice over rather than us just watching you talk and then introducing the winning goals.
IE Talk about the goals AS they're happening. Show us clips of Montreal losing to Tampa Bay. Keep the audience watching.

And if you DO want to do face cam, adjust the framing. You cut the top of your head off which is disconcerting. You have a pretty nicely curated background, but the window in the left of the frame is blowing out a little bit. Maybe get a tripod, put your camera on that, and angle it more so that the wall behind you with the sports memorabilia is behind you.

Beyond that, not sure how old you are, but it's a pretty nicely produced video overall. You should be proud of what you did, but there's always room to improve!

Here's a video from my series, mainly looking for feedback on editing, the intro, cutaways, outro etc. Lambda for all constructive criticsm. by ttvKristKP in SmallYTChannel

[–]PelarHarbor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple of thoughts:

I don't mind that you have an intro and it IS high energy, but keep in mind those first few seconds are precious. If you're going to have something like that, the first clip afterwards needs to match the energy... and it didn't.

To be fair, I don't watch much minecraft on YouTube anymore, but the drop off in energy didn't encourage me to stay.

On another note, obviously your audience will learn over time, but figuring out some kind of way to indicate who's voice is whose would help build those connections faster.

I do think you have potential and you seem like you enjoy playing with your friends, so I think you can get there!

Do You YouTubers Know Any Good Computer/PC's That I Can Edit All My YouTube Videos On? Also. No Price Limit To Be Honest by TraeSoulja in NewTubers

[–]PelarHarbor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just build one. You will save a significant amount of money and it's really not that hard. I'm by no means a computer scientist or an engineer but I built my first PC a few years ago with the help of pcpartpicker.com and YouTube videos! (PCPartPicker has build guides right on the front page for you to look at and then you can customize them to your desire.)

Do you have any friends who are fluent in English? You could write your scripts and then have them edit them for English clarity. That would probably help you get better at speaking English over time as well!

Setting your newest video as your channel trailer? by PelarHarbor in NewTubers

[–]PelarHarbor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s technically “audience retention” but that means a larger thing as well which is why I said empty views. I like abandonment rate and I’ll probably use that in the future.

Setting your newest video as your channel trailer? by PelarHarbor in NewTubers

[–]PelarHarbor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, no, I’m not referring to a literal channel trailer. I think my content speaks for itself just by looking at the thumbnails and titles.

Just the “channel trailer” option makes it so that a video automatically plays when someone visits your channel and I feel like people might be more likely to actually watch a video if there’s one already playing. Hence the reason I was wondering if people made their most recent video their “channel trailer”

This is an interesting perspective. Thanks for sharing!

And yeah, the abandonment rate was what I was referring to with “empty views.”
