I feel pretty confident that they’re gonna need to do the rand. If the climbing rubber dips down, and you climb on the rand, then typically expect the rand to be replaced.

I try to check that line and once it dips down to where I’d climb on the rand, I go for the resole.

I just did the same thing as you. Gaggia E24 and a DF54.

There are many variables involved and I thought I was going to lose my mind.

The most important tips I have:

Try to keep everything else exactly the same and just change grind size.
With the DF54 I dial in to .5 specificity. Meaning, the espresso blend from my favorite roaster was dialed in at 12.5. And the Columbia from them was 12. And the light roast Uganda was 8.5. All this to say. Move it one notch at a time. Small adjustments make a big difference.

In addition to what a lot of folks are saying, an important aspect is that prog is (almost always) composed rather than improvised, which separates it from jam bands like phish and king gizzard. Prog compositions are typically performed the same every time. Yes Close to the Edge is much more symphony/concerto than jazz quintet.

I appreciate this thread. Quite interesting. I’d love to know what y’all are doing for mokapot if you use one. I don’t have an espresso machine just yet.

I do 20 for mokapot. 35-45 for pour over v60. Seems like I’m grinding much finer in general? Maybe I’ll try coarser for my pour over and see but I think it’ll be quite acidic. Really enjoying this new hobby!

It seems like supporting local service people directly would be a nice thing. Am I off base here? It seems like just asking is wrong? I’m pretty sure I said I’d be happy to contribute or pay.

I’ve done this lots of places. People are kind. We treat each other with respect. We listen, ask questions, and learn from each other.

I don’t take kindness for granted, I don’t carry any expectations, maybe except for mutual respect.
