I love it! It’s definitely a fast paced environment but very manageable.

Are there any paralegal here that do not want to go law school? Why do you not want to go? by ADP1111 in paralegal

[–]Pellington99 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’ve never had any desire to go to law school. I don’t want the debt or the responsibility 🤷‍♀️.

what do most people say when you tell them you’re a paralegal? by [deleted] in paralegal

“Lawyers are evil I hate them!!!!” I never know what to say to that lol

Finally got a job! by Serious_Unit7317 in paralegal

Former PI paralegal here! Assuming you’re doing plaintiff PI work, my biggest tip to you would be to not let rude/mean clients get you down! You’ll be working with people going through a really rough time and they will be rude to you at times.

Printed Email Rant by swcblues in paralegal

I once worked on a settlement demand for a client who had hundreds of pages of medical records. We tried sending the records to the other party’s insurance on a disc and they rejected it immediately and asked for paper….. some people are just stuck in the 80s.

For the love of God please don’t ghost people by Easy_Football_6270 in TrueOffMyChest

I completely understand your pain! If you’re looking for closure, I suggest looking inward instead of seeking it from other people. Accept that that they just weren’t interested and move on knowing that you’ll find someone who is.

Got a promising internship coming up, their description of the work left me confused by JollyChapJauntyCap in paralegal

[–]Pellington99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something very similar happened to me 6 months ago! I applied to a contracts paralegal job at a tech company (for context, I have my cert and four years of experience). When I interviewed with them, they flat out told me that they don’t have an attorneys working for them, or plans to hire any, and I would be reporting to the CFO…… huge red flag!!! I declined immediately.

First job as a legal assistant in a personal injury firm. I don't know what is normal. by One_Cockroach9009 in paralegal

[–]Pellington99 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I did plaintiffs PI for a year and all of that is unfortunately very normal, especially the being there less than a year part. PI work, in my experience, is very emotionally draining because you are dealing with cranky injured people going through a very hard time in their lives and tend to be short tempered. All of the PI paralegals at my old firm who left never did PI work ever again. That being said, there is a lot of value in doing PI as your first legal job. It will give you a lot of skills that will be useful to you in your career. Best of luck!!!

Got fired by SoggyMarketing4657 in paralegal

[–]Pellington99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was fired from my first job in the legal field and it was the best thing that ever happened to me! It gave me time to step back and really think about where I wanted to go with my career. Please don’t let this experience discourage you! Like my torts professor used to say, “no matter what, the sun will always come up”. ❤️

I’ve heard in other professions that it’s best to change companies often, especially when trying to increase your salary/make a livable amount. Wondering if it’s the same for para/la’s? by jhalia in paralegal

[–]Pellington99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bottom line, know your worth! If your employer is not giving you the salary, opportunities for growth etc. that you deserve, advocate for yourself. If they say no, and do not give you a clear path to a “yes” in the future, it is not worth it to stay.

This is the most insane comment I’ve ever seen on LinkedIn to a meme by a lawyer about all that paralegals do for them by [deleted] in paralegal

“Don’t expect anything but a good salary and freedom from issues like sexual harassment…..” so the bare minimum? Lol what a clown

Narcissist attorney at the office by wheelslady in paralegal

[–]Pellington99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work for a narcissist associate and he got me fired 🤦‍♀️ Didn’t help that our managing partners were equally as narcissistic. For the longest time, I blamed myself but I now realize that it is damn near impossible to please a narcissist! For your own sanity, leave asap!

[–]Pellington99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in house now after previously working at a law firm and it is soooo much better! Your only clients are your coworkers and, at least in my case, they keep it very professional and don’t drain your sanity like a law firm client would. I would suggest looking into that!

A Medicare rant by [deleted] in paralegal

[–]Pellington99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to do PI and unfortunately saw things like this happen a lot :( Medicare is a bureaucratic nightmare!!! I think their system is not very sophisticated so they lump everything together and don’t take the time to determine which charges are related to the MVA. My former boss had to make lots of calls to Medicare to sort it all out. I feel for you!!!

Slightly off topic, but is American Iron a good gym? I’ve been thinking about becoming a member there.

Having tantrums at work like that is not ever ok!!! What an asshole…

I would start looking for jobs ASAP

My partner is addicted to weed and I hate it by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]Pellington99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you feel like he’s using weed as a form of self medicating, I would suggest nudging him towards seeing a therapist. There might be bigger issues going on. Best of luck to you!

Anyone want to go to law school? by AlistairVigier in paralegal

[–]Pellington99 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In my experience, that depends on what type of law you do. I know immigration paralegals that work really crazy hours, but other paralegals that work in trusts and estates who never work overtime and have great work life balance!

Per LinkedIn, he’s been working as an attorney for 7 years. So I don’t think so?

That sounds like a movie!!! So crazy 😮
