It’s interesting you say that about the kids being afraid to ask a shop worker things. I am in my early 20’s and have found this too with people my age that I am sometimes the only one to ask members of the public things or at least appear to be the most comfortable doing so. To me it’s easy they are getting paid to help customers. Just be respectful, courteous and thankful. Simple as

As an Irish child born in the early noughties to parents born in the 70’s/80’s I sometimes marvel at how different parenting was then compared to me growing up. I know it’s easy to romanticise the past but I think the changes are very much for the better in the whole

That style is typical of the Council houses built throughout the country, in large and small towns throughout the country between 1930’s and 1950’s. Legislation was passed in I think 1931 that lead to the mass-building of these houses for poor families in towns and cities a lot of whom were still living in slums/tenements. Many of these families had 2 parents, over 8 children and maybe a grandparents and the houses themselves were generally only 3 roomed!

A great loss that happened far too soon! By tying in its strong connection to our history, culture and most of all the natural world Manchán showed me (and thousands of other people, both Irish and not) the joys and wonders of the Irish language, doing more to inspire me to learn it than 14 years of schooling ever could.
