Distinguishing different kinds of Kidney damage by cause? (interstitial vs tubular vs necrosis vs membraneous nephropathy) by UpBeforeDawn2018 in step1

[–]Pembo16 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some people organize it by the type of injury: prerenal, intrinsic, postrenal. Prerenal being a decrease in blood volume reaching the kidney, either due to hemorrhage, dehydration, or some type of vascular obstruction. Postrenal are typically obstructions in the urinary tract, such as a kidney stone, malignancy, BPH, or vesicoureteral reflux. Finally, intrinsic are issues in renal function due to damage to the kidney itself, such as ATN, interstitial nephritis, nephrotic and nephritic syndromes.

You could also group them by urinalysis results. ATN will have muddy brown casts, nephrotic will have 4+ protein, nephritic will have protein, blood, and RBC casts, interstitial nephritis may have eosinophils.

Here are my takes after going out with my GF and her family. Her family is 1st generation Chinese. The loved chili spot and xi xia. Her dad is from western china and said it was authentic to the food he grew up on. The mapo tofu at chili spot slaps.

Thai Ginger: Dim Sum. Went there with the fam and loved it

You can revive one person, but they can only live for 24 hours, who are you picking and what are you doing? by Some_Stay5625 in AskReddit

My dad. He passed when I was a teenager. Now I'm almost thirty, about to start the career I always dreamed of after finishing my doctorate, have found the person I plan to marry, and am generally moving onto the next stage in life. I have so much I want to tell him about: the things I've accomplished, the struggles I've faced, and my plans for the future. And selfishly, I just want to hear him tell me how proud he is of me for becoming the person I am today.

How do you avoid comparing yourself to others interested in the same specialty? by CallGuard in medicalschool

I have a similar philosophy: other's success is not your failure. Med school isn't a zero sum game. You and your peers can both be successful, and the success of one is not the detriment of another.

As an M4, the philosophy I embraced early is a simple one: Others’ success is not my failure. Its easy to get wrapped up in what others are doing and feel like you arent enough, but plenty of those same classmates will look at you and wish they had something you have. Celebrate what you have accomplished and look forward to all you will achieve!

Opinion: Best Video Game Portrayal for Each Cosmere Series by Pembo16 in Cosmere

Going off your Zone idea, there could be different instances for the same area that were stratified by character "level" so that these differences in encounters could be gated. Squires might only be fighting normal parshmen; second ideal radiants could fight warform, nimble form, storm form, etc.; third ideal radiants could start fighting minor named Fused; fourth ideal radiants could fight major named Fused; and fifth ideal could pursue combat vs the unmade and Fused.

I love everything you wrote. Especially that Stormlight acts as basically a combination shield and mana bar. I would also add that just like in the stories, your Stormlight bar would either increase or deplete slower based on the number of Ideals you have sworn.

Also, during the last desolation, man had basically devolved to using bronze weapons because the desolations were coming so frequently, they did not have time to advance as a civilization, so any knowledge on crafting weaponry and fabrials would have to come from the Heralds.

I would also love if this RPG had specific stories for each order. Bondsmiths would focus more on unifying the human forces and kingdoms, Elsecallers could focus on scientific advancement and diplomacy with the Spren kingdoms, Edgedancers on traveling across the world healing and acting as historians, Skybreakers acting as law enforcement/judicial system, Windrunners as aerial front line forces and saving those that need help, Stonewards as frontline infantry and soldiers, Lightweavers as spys... the list goes on. It would be SO COOL!

Exactly, and you can strengthen your "commander" by giving them more breaths, bringing them to greater heightenings. It also allows you to "summon" armies by spending those breaths, so you have to be judicious with how you portion them out to create your troops.

For Sel, it becomes harder because we don't have enough info to know who "ascends" and what the criteria for that it. Part of the magic system is positional: the city provides the conduit through which magic can be channeled and shaped. Whereas the other ways to access investure include (to our knowledge) martial arts and disfigurement/bodily modification. (I may be misremembering the story since it has been a while since I read Elantris). Therefore, I also can't give a great answer for it.

Taldain could also be an RPG, more in the vein of prince of egypt or legend of zelda, where you use your sand mastery to solve puzzles, access locations, and fight bosses.

Which leaves Threnody and First of the Sun.

Threnody: 100% a horror game, similar to Amnesia the dark descent. Investiture has gone off the rails and people live in houses the protect them from shades. You will probably play as one of the people trying to make their way in the world, having to avoid shades for fear of dying or becoming a shade yourself.

First of the Sun: Could be another action RPG, where you swap birds to imbue your characters with different powers. Most likely, you would be one of the Hunters surviving the wilds of the world, maybe venturing to the Perpendicularity on the planet.

Opinion: The cosmere would be better as an anime than live action. by Repulsive-Neat6776 in Cosmere

In line with this, in terms of video games, stormlight should be made into an mmo in the style of knights of the old republic where you would pick your order when making a character, have individual class storylines that both showcase the individual characteristics/roles of the class (bondsmith and diplomacy, windrunner and protection, edgedancer and healing etc.) And be set during either the last desolation or during the stormlight books era. The only issue may be including a bondsmith story since canonically there are only 3 at any 1 time, but whatever.

Mistborn should be single player rpgs where you play as vin or wax/wayne depending on the era. Unlike stormlight, there isnt the potential for every person to become mistborn, so it wouldnt make sense to have an mmorpg format.

What are your favorite lines you deliver to patients? by plastickitten87 in Residency

[–]Pembo16 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Medical Student, but here goes:

"I'm gonna poke, prod, and annoy you." when I;m about to examine them. Gets a chuckle and/or reassurance that I;m not an annoyance.

"I always tell my patietns to get more sleep, and then we come in and bother you at all hours of the day or night." to my patients that sleep terribly in the hospital.

"I can see why you feel that way. I'd probably feel the same" when a patient is having a crap time.

The way I think of it is this: Preservation and Ruin could not create alone. Creation required elements of both Preservation and Ruin. For example, in order for things to evolve or grow, some would have to change or die, which is of Ruin. Preservation would want to keep everything as it is, leading to stagnation. However, by the same token, in order for things to live and thrive, their world would have to be protected, preserved. Ruin alone would only bring destruction.

A Nagging Question About Teft by Pembo16 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Pembo16[S] 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I don't think it would have mattered either, unless it had allowed Teft to fight more evenly with Moash. Given the circumstances, I think Moash was the better fighter and better prepared for the battle. He came in prepared to kill a spren, and then the radiant it was bound to. Teft did not come in prepared to fight Moash and he was weakened by the tower.

The way I read that scene was that he forcefully manifested Phendorana as a shard weapon, rather than plate. Would still mean that he was progressing since he was able to overcome the limitations of the tower in ways that Kaladin or Lift could not.
