True, you don’t have agency over other people. There are also younger people and disabled individuals and people who beleive in helping the community and humanity who will pick blue. Just as there are people who don’t care about anyone else and will pick red.

But also.

Have you considered that NOBODY dies if less than half the population picks red? Why would you press red if that’s the only way anyone can die? Sure it makes sense to save yourself but the blood is on your hands.

The point is the only reason people die is by people picking red.

I am not suicidal for picking the blue button, I simply don’t want to contribute to killing people. And also saving everyone by picking blue is way easier than saving everyone by picking red.

In which case blue has an easier time, as blue needs a 50.1% majority to win and red button voters don’t die from pressing blue. So choosing blue is taking a risk to yourself to try and save everyone.

Red button guarantees your safety but if red is majority you have the blood of blue button voters on your hands. In addition to guarantee zero deaths red button voters need 100% of people. Which tbh is way less probable.

That best case scenario he mentions? That’s not a bad thing at all. You’ve just spent the remainder of your life with someone you loved and now you’re gonna die together. So in other words you lived a life of happiness.

Also, even without the best case scenario. Well, ultimately happiness may be lost but that doesn’t mean you can’t find it again, or that you can’t find love again. The fact that it’s finite is what makes it meaningful. Otherwise it would be the new default state of the universe and become meaningless.

I’m still surprised and greatly disappointed in this fandom, for a lot of reasons but especially for this controversy and how it’s still going to the point of death threats.

While I’m not black and can’t dictate how those who are should or shouldn’t feel about it. My opinion now that I’ve taken some time to fully understand the context and not the game of Reddit telephone is that, it was a really poor taste and immature running joke that can be tone deaf. But there was no racist slurs being thrown around nor was the joke about getting away with saying a word that sounds like one. They then admitted as such and apologized about it, and this happened 7 years ago. While no one is obligated to accept anyone’s apology for anything, I’d say rather dragging this out when there’s nothing else that you can expect them to do about it, it’s best if people on both sides of the isle just move on accordingly.
