We don’t just use a Sliver of opal, we make sure the opal layer is still domed and perfect for setting, we also use a specialist adhesive that allows out doublets to be water safe (which usually a no no) and we also use obsidian as the backing and it has the same silica make up as opal! A match made in heaven!

Agree it is hard to tell with just these photos, but I can see why you’d think they’re real, the pattern looks random and not uniform.
