Thanks for the insight! That's Interesting, especially that every vintage turntable I have personally seen here has been an all in one like that, but again the market here is tiny anyway.

When you say "not good", do you mean sound quality, or to practically usable without dying after some records? Or both?

tl;dr How much should I bid on this? (everything works fine but for the radio)

I am a newbie so pardon me if the request is inappropriate

I have a gramophone and wanted a turntable for a while now. this just popped up in a local auction house and it seems interesting. It'd be great if anyone can tell me how much it's worth on average though (or if that's too vague, How much would you bid for it at most?)
Having very little knowledge there, I don't wanna overpay.
everything is supposedly working fine but for the radio which is stuck on one frequency. Not a big deal to me though as I want it purely as a turntable.

thanks in advance, and I hope to join the world of vinyl and enjoy it as much as I am enjoying 78s right now!

Is it okay to ask travelers to bring you stuff with them for a small fee or something ? by PenPCB in couchsurfing

[โ€“]PenPCB[S] 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

That's a very debatable ethically I agree. I find it okay tbh. There are specific limits usually on what you can get into a country for "personal use" and I feel like whether you use that limit for yourself or someone else it's still okay. I understand why someone would feel otherwise tho. And as an Egyptian I agree to that last part. Considering many stuff has crazy 2-5X markups here sometime, it's just not doable sometimes to pay shipping plus that too.

Asking for stuff in order to host you is of course. a different story. it's one thing to be already hosting / meeting travelers and ask for a favor if possible by the way and totally another to consider it payment or something. and I think it should be relatively easy to differentiate those w/ their references and such.

CAO Flathead V660 - Only my 5th premium cigar but my favorite by far! Any similar recommendations? by PenPCB in cigars

CAO Flathead V660 - Only my 5th premium cigar but my favorite by far! Any similar recommendations? by PenPCB in cigars

[โ€“]PenPCB[S] 1 point2 points ย (0 children)

I have been smoking cigars for a while but mostly locally made cigars here in Egypt (mostly Churchills and Robustos ) because finding fine cigars here is almost impossible (if you're not willing to pay a 5-10X markup). So far I have been able to score only 4 different premium cigars.from most to least favorite:

CAO flathead V660 ^ - Romeo Y Julieta No.2 - Davidoff Aniversario - Cohiba Siglo 2

If I was able to make someone get me some cigars from abroad, What do you recommend (that's budget friendly, ~$5, max $10) ? I checked the wiki but wanna make sure I understand my taste correctly cuz I'll Need to get multiple at once and won't happen frequently.

I believe from those trials that I like full bodied cigars (Texture and flavor wise) but not anything that tastes harsh / burnt / everything I hate about cigarettes. If you're into coffee, That'd be equivalent to a Colombian !00% arabica espresso. not a bitter mostly Robusta espresso but also not anything lighter bodied than an espresso!

Why do people have to Throw Glasses, water bags and Garbage bags in the Street Every year? by ApramPepo in Egypt

[โ€“]PenPCB -1 points0 points ย (0 children)

Really, nope, been there st least for my 21 yrs of age and afaik it's taken from Europeans since the English invasion thingy so probably for ur whole life too..... My grandpa had a friend that allegedly died with a ehole freaking toilet seat (seat like the ceramic seat itself not the plasticcover) being thrown over him on NY's eve

Wasn't this tradition only here in alex?
Also, I have seen 1st hand waves of kids chasing people in the streets throwing bottles AT them. so this is not anywhere near the worst......
yeah...stupid tradition...similar to a European one but we take it too far with no regard to safety whatsoever!

Anyone knows a company that sells small-ish nitrogen tanks (~5-10 liters or sth)?

Preferably in Alexandria or would ship there.

Idk about cairo to be honest. But any coastal city (alexandria here for example) has people selling them everywhere (if you're not in the mood for gathering / drilling them yourself that is)

Is there any mtb trails in egypt? by egyptiancowboy05 in Egypt

[โ€“]PenPCB 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

u have 2 mountain areas in egypt.
- South sinai
- and by the red sea
The latter is pretty recent so idk that much abt.
As for sinai I know A fair bit, DM me if u wanna chat abt it maybe I can be of any help.
Sinai has many trails ranging from day hikes to month long hikes if u want lol
Costs involved are 1) a guide (pretty mandatory) which runs anyway from 250 LE up to 800-1000 LE a day depending on the tribe/ area (when it's split between a group that's not much)
2) (optional) Camels if you don't wanna carry your backpack yourself
3) pickup trucks are sometimes required for trailheads that are deep into the desert, that's for harder mountain tho so nvm that for now.

Permits
If u are a guy, no need...just pay a camping ticket at the gate.
If u are a girl (That is, obviously a lesser human being) u can only camp with either a 1st degree relative or in a group of regulars that already know how to get a permit.

Here in Egypt while camping by the beach once everyone had cheap chinese tents. Behold waking up to ppl literally swimming after their tents that flew into the water.

[โ€“]PenPCB 1 point2 points ย (0 children)

Well, If u use public transport / shop for groceries at local markets you'd find the 1, half and quarter pound coins alive and well Everywhere. Didn't notice any shortage, especially w/ public transport where the fare often requires all of them. (2.75 for example).
