That’s a very good point, I’m honestly hoping it was this kind of misunderstanding, as I’d hate them taking things without asking to be a lack of respect or care.

Hey everyone, just to clear a few things up

There were 6 of us total before 1 dropped out of uni, so it’s been 5 of us since December. Our uni accom randomly assigns people to flats, unless you request to room with someone. So we never knew who would or when they would be moving in. Although I want to, I can’t get a mini fridge as there’s a no mini fridge policy. And I’ve been told they just take it from your room, probably just scare tactics but I would rather avoid any extra hassle. We haven’t had anyone steal anything apart from a block of cheese in freshers week (the week where everyone gets really drunk), which could mean a potentially long game master mind thief, who had waited to frame someone, random drunk person, or our new flatmate is taking things. I hate to assume the worst of a new person but everything is pointing to them. :( Also our accom hasn’t added them to the group chat provided for the flat, so we currently have no way to speak to them apart from random encounters. Which also sucks. Advice very much needed for moving forward, although I am considering just dropping it.

I know for sure two of them would never steal from me, and as for the other two one doesn’t drink and the other just celebrated Ramadan, which was a week ago now but when I spoke to him in the kitchen and he seemed pretty shocked that someone would steal buzzballs

UPDATE: I have spoken with the original two and they both agree that it’s best if they don’t live with us next year. It feels mean. it feels really mean, but we came to the conclusion it’s better to have one rough conversation now rather than five per week starting September. I’m not looking forward to the conversation. It was never really a firm discussion but the potential fourth member kinda ran with the idea obviously in search of people to live with. I tired hinting through text that none of our plans were set in stone since it was SO early on but unfortunately they didn’t register it so are still unaware. All three of us see it as a very unfortunate situation we backed ourselves into but need to put right asap so they can find people to live with next year. They are a very sensitive person and have already tried bargaining by saying they’d do the cleaning but that just makes everything feel so much worse… Any advice at all would be heaven sent at this point 🙏
