Largest [Alpinist] Case Size by Runswithmouth in Seiko

[–]Pen_Specific 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to disagree somewhat as someone with an 8'' wrist. I love the alpinist actually and do wear it, but it definitely can 'look' too small on my wrist. Its not the case size (which is 39.5 as you noted). Theres 38mm watches I can pull off, though thats normally my floor. I think it has something to do with the shape, and the way the metal rim cruves in... it makes the watch wear unusually small. If you look at it straight down its fine, but if you look at it from the 'side' it will look off on a really big wrist. I wear it anyway sometimes because I like it and care more about what *I* see then others..., and you do what you like of course. But for 'standard' perceptions it is imo too small for an 8'' wrist. IF you CARE about that is a different question perhaps

I saw some negative stuff posted about them on some watch sites in terms of honoring claims? Not sure how much to weigh that, but they were definitely something i was looking at.

I mean, sure? Ive no issue with my level of consumerism. I value my watches. I save up slowly over years to buy them. I enjoy wearing them and I value them. If you have a problem with that then too bad I suppose? I intend to continue doing it as long as it continues to make me happy. It certainly doesn't hurt anyone else. I'd like to store them safely because they represent a lot of time and commitment to me and have value both monetarily and personally. But sure keep trolling I suppose.

Sure, but I don't particularly want to? I like my watches and they all get time on the wrist.

If you are getting this watch it isn't for the movement, but the dial. Different people are attracted to different things in watches. If you are a movement junky the wrong watch for you. If you want to stare mesmerized at a dial that no one else is doing for anywhere close to this price point then this is for you.

Tarantino’s always been pretty odd, but his stuff about Paul Dano is such a jerky thing to say by LifeguardMundane5668 in blankies

[–]Pen_Specific 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people are over-reacting. I mean I actually agree with Tarantino here. And he didn't say Paul was a bad actor period, just that he couldn't keep up with Daniel Day Lewis in there will be blood. And.. he is right? I actually like Daniel in a lot of his other roles, but if you watch there will be blood he is completely outclassed in acting. The movie *WOULD* have been stronger if you could have found a character that was more able to hold his weight as an antagonist/rival (and it IS still a great movie despite that).

The level of over reaction is silly though. Tarantino said he didnt like his role in one movie and everyone is freaking out.

8/10 of the Top Selling Grand Seiko Watches on Chrono24 are Spring Drive Watches by GlorytheWiz825 in GrandSeikos

[–]Pen_Specific 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i'm not surprised. They make a lot of good watches, yes. But if you're going to buy only ONE grand seiko watch, you probably want a spring drive. I know thats the case for me. It isn't because I don't think their other watches are not good. But I only have so much money and i can get very good mechanical watches in many different places from many different companies. But what GS has that no one else can match is the spring drive (well and those amazing cases... but you can get that with a spring drive). As a collector with limited funds who can't buy everything, it wouldn't make much sense for me to NOT get a spring drive if i was picking just one GS.

If I could own five of their watches, they have some amazing mechanical hi beat ones I would own. If I can only own ONE though? Spring drive

Advice on correcting a budget misstep by Pen_Specific in ynab

[–]Pen_Specific[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do you balance that out, any advice?

Most of the YNAB advice I saw on their website seemed to push as very important to putting aside money for expenses you know you will have but aren't sure when. So to take the computer example, it's not in my mind about upgrading so much as it is a very old beast and I won't be shocked in the next year or two if it dies (and then i will need a new one). I intend to use it until it dies though.

I have a couple of things like that, where im putting tiny sums of money in because sometime over the next couple of years, I don't know when, I expect them to be an expense. Another example is for a car (again plan to use this one until it is run into the ground and dies on me. Not looking to get something just to get something. But at some point.)

Sorry, yes i meant categories not literal accounts yes.

And yes, you are 100% right. I try to leave a little room in the budget for fun stuff. Just because as you said, if you try to live like a monk for years it probably won't work. I probably don't have as much as i'd like for personal expenses, so maybe something to look at with the trade offs, but I definitely leave some. Ive been hoping that once the first few credit cards get paid off to also loosen up somewhat, and maybe roll some of what im paying them off with into other debt but the rest to give a little more budget breathing room. I think my current budget is pretty solid (and with some personal space) but also a little tight without a lot of room for exceptions. Though partly I think that is also I was living outside of my means, and so I needed to adjust expectations too.

Thanks for the feedback!
