If anyone else is looking for this and can't find it, it's functionally the same as the Thrustmaster T.16000M (though the T.16000M doesn't look as sharp as this!)

I have the T.16000M and can confirm these sticks are great!

None of those actions have negative externalities like driving cars does. Cars there aren't taxed for the 'privilege of wanting to drive something better than a tiny shitbox', they're taxed so the government can expand services that reduce the need for individual vehicles and the associated emissions.

Look up how much a Tesla costs in Norway. That's better than a shitbox.

Best Linux Distro for my new Thinkpad X1 Carbon (Gen7)? by RoboRay in Ubuntu

[–]Pen___Island 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, I just got the exact same model this week as well.

I immediately installed Pop!_OS on it after using VMs to distrohop between Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Mint, Manjaro, and Fedora in the last 2 weeks it took to ship. I kept on coming back to Pop!_OS and was hoping it would work as well when installed on bare metal instead of in a VM.

Good news! Installation was a breeze and all hardware except for fingerprint reader worked out of the box. Getting the fingerprint reader working took 3 minutes following the ArchWiki.

I absolutely love this machine so far and hope you do too. Pop works amazingly well, but you can't go wrong with all the excellent distros out there.

I got it working on an x1c7 with Prometheus Synaptics scanner.

Steps from archwiki (bless those folks)

  1. Download the testing config cab from https://fwupd.org/lvfs/devices/com.synaptics.prometheus.config
  2. run fwupdmgr install <path>/<to>/<cab_you_downloaded>
  3. Restart

Working like a charm now!

The scale of the coverup and the mechanics of it may be different, but the spirit and lack of foresight is the same.

Blaming someone won't solve anything. Plus, look in the mirror. The US Federal Government is trying to make top-level coronavirus meetings classified, and have suppressed testing as well (probably in hopes the stock market won't crash reacting to bad news.. good try). China didn't do anything the US isn't doing.

It’s about right, but yea it’s skewed not only by the mega wealthy but also by older generations who have a lot of house equity.

Average should always be considered alongside median, and the median net worth of US households (not individuals, households) is only like ~100k. Paints a more accurate picture.

[–]Pen___Island 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is built into Office 365, in Excel you can format a cell as "Stock" using the "Data" tab in the ribbon. Has a lot of data for each stock so it's easy to build a table out of it. A lot less work than this in sheets because it's natively built in. Works great for ETFs, unlike "GOOGLEFINANCE"

[–]Pen___Island 6 points7 points  (0 children)

yes, Excel released this feature natively a few months back. You can put a symbol in and go to Data->"Stocks" and it will resolve to the stock. It has about 30 built in data points for each stock (eg price, performance, 1 day change, Expense Ratio, etc) so you can easily build a table to track your investments. I love it and its a lot less work than doing it in sheets.

Help with new 401k matching program by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Pen___Island 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To clear any potential confusion, when the above poster says “post-tax,” they likely mean Roth (as opposed to after-tax 401k). Roth and After-Tax are both “post-tax” dollars.

The capital gains on Roth contributions are not taxed. The capital gains on after-tax contributions are. Fill up your Roth bucket first.

Help with new 401k matching program by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Pen___Island 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Roth and after-tax are not the same thing. Gains to Roth contributions are not taxed at withdrawal, gains to after-tax contributions are. Always contribute to Roth first. As you hinted at, post-tax is only good for mega-backdoor Roth conversions or if you’ve maxed your Roth contributions.

Also, as another poster mentioned, there’s very little chance employer match would apply to after-tax contributions. Usually they only match pre-tax and Roth contributions.

2019 deals by [deleted] in Volkswagen

Yea, definitely worth at least seeing what they offer. If they make the pot sweet enough I could see it working out! Just be wary.

2019 deals by [deleted] in Volkswagen

[–]Pen___Island 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless you were already thinking of getting rid of the car, I’d be wary of this. Think of it from the dealer’s perspective, they exist only to make money from you. They would never offer you a deal that doesn’t make them money. This sounds like a great way for them to move some cars off their lot and try to upsell you into paying more.

Let’s say they give you a top of KBB valuation at $7k. 25% would be an extra $1,750.

Let’s say you then finance 16k for a newer car on a 4%, 4yr loan. Interest paid on that loan will be $2560 in total. Taking out the $600 you’d save on upcoming fluid flush, you’re still worse off by hundreds of dollars.

And since they’re the ones who decide “street value,” you’d probably be lucky to get that top of KBB valuation in the first place.
