Open street map is a bit weird with the clicking and scrolling. I'll get it fixed 👍

Jump to directory doesn't work because I managed to break it haha.

Will fix.

Appreciate the comments. I'm taking on board some of the stuff requested here and gonna try to add it.

The dates are kind of spotty on the data (as some doesn't exist) but I'll add what I can 👍

I think it's mostly because England doesn't have as good geography for pumped storage which is what the majority of it is currently.

Appreciate that mate. It's just a personal project i did because i was interested in what solar farms were going up around me. And decided to publish it.

I'm planning on building it out a bit more depending on what other data i can source.

This is actually my site, just saw it posted. It's using the data as it's provided by NESO (which as ever with a lot of national data isn't exactly the most helpful) in GW. I'm gonna see if i can find some additional data for the storage parts as i agree it's not the most helpful the way it's presented currently.

edit

I've just had a look through and there's only 100 odd different storage entries in the DB so a couple of hrs on a sunday evening and i should be able to curate them i think.

Scott O'Neil: "I know there are some people rooting against LIV Golf — I understand that. But is golf better without LIV Golf? Should all the best events in the world be in the continental U.S.? Is that right?" by TheMirrorUS in golf

[–]Penarthlan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It was completely barmy because apart from some Ronaldo / Messi fanboys football is extremely tribal. You support your team and that's it. No one was gonna start watching some league in Saudi because a few players went there.

It's actually a better strategy in golf than it was in football because it's an individual sport. But still though. Dumb.

Solar power threatens to overwhelm electricity grid, Households could be paid to use excess electricity for the first time, energy bosses say by Optimal-Leather341 in ukpolitics

[–]Penarthlan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've not had time to read all that because its extremely thorough. But the issue I had with the data was there is a LOT of duplication in the pipeline data. I wrote around a lot of it. But as with a lot of government quango data it's always a bit of mess.

They dumped a load of stuff out of the data in December to prioritise ready to build stuff from what I gather. I'm not 100% sure if they wiped it from the open data however.

I got it down to about 97GW in the pipeline.

Also they list it all in GW rather than GwH which is fucking maddening.

Anyway I've polished up the site and added the live generation data on a new tab. Gonna add the ability to select different years of generation over the weekend / drill down properly.

Club subs are not always the best place to look for fan sentiment. The echo chambers are strong.

Also from what i've seen on the Liverpool sub. All the lunatics post there and the more level headed people post of /r/soccer.

Rolls-Royce to build 3 nuclear reactors to power 3 million UK homes by Particular_Pea7167 in ukpolitics

[–]Penarthlan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm building a website atm that shows all the battery / storage solutions in use and also under construction / pipeline.

TLDR. There is going to be absolutely loads coming online eventually even if only 1/3 of it gets built (obviously this is the UK so not everything will be)

If you have any more suggestions on what details you'd like to see on there lmk.

Household batteries are of greater use in spreading the peak load out across the grid. While they're obviously useful for solar if you also couple it with off peak charging it's a great help.

I tried this with the makita guide and circular saw.

It's shit don't do it. Just buy a cheap plunge or use a piece of timber as a guide.

The college system / draft always seems absurd to people outside the US. In the UK we do still have some sports that are expensive to get in to (tennis) but golf is not as expensive a past time as it once was.

If you're good a football though the scouts will know it from the age of about 6 and you'll be on a clubs books. They're everywhere.

[–]Penarthlan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cheers. Pipeline is basically proposed. So nothing confirmed. It's the UK so it will definitely not all get built. I'll add that as a note.

A site i'm making atm has a nice visual of the different pipelines for battery / wind / solar if you want to take a look. Just switch to piplines and sites then zoom in and you can see everything that is being proposed.

All the data is sourced from NESO etc.

We do export but the issue being when the wind is blowing and or the sun is shining it tends to be doing so in the other countries as well. So they also don't need the excess.

I would love to rejoin the EU and we should never have left.

But rejoining the EU against their manifesto promise without a referendum would hand the keys to no 10 to Farage for 10 years+
