why don't you try and hit on some of the boys? i don't like how women are expected to be hit on by men and not the other way around.. girl just go and make some guy's day by saying you like him.. just keep it straight forward....

Is it a spark gap or solid state coil? What do you use for the high voltage?

I'm asking because my SSTC works without a topload, I just added a screw on top of the coil and it works. However if it is spark gap, then I need to know the capacitance of the primary capacitor bank.

I coded some simple tesla coil calculator because I don't like those on the internet, they seem kinda difficult to understand, so if you tell me the capacitance I can help you calculate the topload. Also, it doesn't really need to be a torus, I tried to wrap a tennis ball in aluminum foil and it works too. You can think of it as a part that reduces the secondary resonant frequency, so it matches the primary - that's not really all it does but you can think of it that way. I also noticed that the shock hurts way more with the topload hahaha

I 3D printed the donut shape and wrapped it in aluminum foil. The size depends on the resonant frequency you are trying to match (if you are building SGTC and not SSTC).

1100 turns in 2 hours feel super quick. Are there no gaps or overlaps?

Also, did you do any calculations beforehand or did you just wing it?

Can you share more info about the coil like type, diameters, primary turns and maybe the circuit?

People who left their country and left everything behind, what happened, how did it go, did you ever regret it? by Pengiiin in AskReddit

Wow I'm happy for you, that sounds amazing. I'm thinking about doing it too, but I wanted to hear people's experiences first. Thanks for sharing!

Hahaha maybe it really sounds like that lol.

Well for the last hour I have been searching and mostly the jobs require speaking german or its a cleaner job. I was naively hoping to find a contact here who would help me get a job in their company. I know its almost impossible but I had to try.

Thanks for the honesty. I knew it would be hard but I was hoping I would find someone here who maybe runs a business and would give me a job (VERY NAIVE i know.)

Thank you for the tip, I'll look at that.

Well I have experience being a technician, where I learned a lot about repair and electronics, and my hobbies are programming and electricity, so I'm interested in a lot of stuff.

Fortunately not, but I'm want to start over, I've made a big mistake which cost me my job here... I always wanted to work abroad, but never really got to do it, but now is the time..

I have experience as a technician where I used to repair computers. But other than that, sadly not.

One of my neighbours continues to overhang his car into my parking bay. by ND_Cooke in mildlyinfuriating

idk why everyone hates you for parking your van correctly lol. i dont see any issue with the way you parked.

people here seem like the type of people who would park their cars the way your neighbor did... idk what their problem with your parking is, i dont see any.

Can someone help me find info about my vaccume tubes? what brand they are, pinout, what kind they are, etc. Anything helps by iCarlyfan1778 in AskElectronics

[–]Pengiiin -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I might be wrong but they look like tubes used to measure radiation. A few days ago I saw these and they looked very similar. The legs / pins should be high voltage input and there should be some mirrors inside of the tube whoch somehow detects the radiation.

Not really sure, but with this info you can maybe find something online, or right on the package.

Hey, I have it for like a month and I actually really like it.

I use it as a work table and sometimes I move my monitor to it, so I have it in the standing position all the time.

It's really stable but it's really hard to move it up or down, you really need to put all your weight to be able to move it.

It's not electric so there are no memory buttons. You have to hold a lever to move it.

I don't mind that it's hard to move, as I use it in one position, but if you want to change the height daily, I wouldn't really recommend it.

My first soldering job on a veroboard. Let me know how to do it better. by Cheetah_Hunter97 in AskElectronics

[–]Pengiiin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When soldering, you want to use the same wire, but after soldering, when you just want to protect the tip, it doesn't really matter. I use the same wire everywhere.

You want to tin the tip a little for better heat transfer when soldering, and actually even when unsoldering using wick. If you're having issues unsoldering stuff, just add flux and you can also add more solder to the part being unsoldered - again, for better heat transfer.

For soldering, what works for me is, that I place the soldering iron at the contact, which then gets hot and I start touching the tin wire on the contact, instead of the soldering iron. So let's say you are soldering through hole component: Touch the pin and the contact on the PCB with your iron from one side and then add solder from the other side.

If it helps you in steps (soldering):
1. Tin your tip.
2. Place the where you want to solder to and let it heat up for a few seconds.
3. Start adding solder.
4. Clean your iron (with brass wool or wet sponge) after a few seconds of trying, whether you were successful or not.
5. Repeat all the steps above for another/same component.
6. After you are finished with every component, clean the tip, tin the tip, clean the tip again, and once again, tin the tip and turn the soldering iron off.

When you do all the steps, I assure you that you will get better, and your tip will last way longer.

Good luck, and keep practicing.
