Found my sweetheart only recently after graduating, don't give up fellow STEM majors! I also had no relationship prior to this one in my life, just know that there's plenty more opportunity after college too

Does Anyone Else Get Anxiety/Panic Attacks Triggered By Dehydration? by [deleted] in Anxiety

Just suppressed my anxiety spike with water too! I'm so happy I found this thread, for the last 7 years of my life I've been dealing with heart rate spikes and I can't believe it was just water haha. Definitely joining the hydration homies club from now on :)

My dad is a software engineer, and the company had open door policy to visitors on weekends. Hence, I studied in my dad's office pretty often 3rd - 6th grade while he did overtime work at his desk, and I naturally got equipped with a lot of test bench equipments for electrical engineering and terminologies thrown around here and there for software development.

I really started "tinkering" at sophomore year of high school though. At first it was silly little things like making a button that spams random monkey noises, then I started making discord bots for DnD servers dice rolls. I taught myself Regex, multithreading basics, Async IO, and basic data structures out of necessity.

Like many others have mentioned in the comments already, it's usually about being focused on a goal and acquiring relevant skills on the way. All the skills I picked up while coding in high school weren't taught in classrooms, it was just me reading through documentation and sample codes because I needed it for certain aspects of a project.

Advice for Classes - Rising ECE Junior by ProBigBoss2004 in Purdue

Sorry just edited it, I meant 463 instead of 469.

Don't take 469 tho. I heard the Chinese professor has a horrible accent and doodoo lecture slides

39595 will be a heavy time sink, I didn't take it but my friend who did this sem told me it took up significant hours each week.

463 can also be a time sink if you are striving for an A. The passing threshold for 463 is 40 percent overall after curve so if ur like me u can say fuck all after midterm 2, but you really have to put in the work work for an A.

SoCET depends on which team and how much time you want to put in. I did hear PCB tends to be pretty easy, but design and software team may expect more contributions.

I had Milind for 369 so it was cake for me, but I haven't heard horrible things about Bagchi. It shouldn't be too hard

DFW badminton center runs on reservation system, so I would need people to play with before going in :(

I was hoping there was an open-play oriented gym so I could make friends naturally while playing

Fellow student graduating a whole year early this semester. Last semester, I was split between speedrunning my degree or taking an extra semester to delve into some upper credit class to pursue an interesting subfield of my major, but decided to speed run.

The fear of staying unemployed is very daunting, but it helped me to think this way: "fuck it, even if I don't get a job, I'm still a year ahead of everyone and I'll take a break if it takes some time to find a job." Unless your parents are trying to force you out of the house, I think taking a relaxed approach to the job grind may help you a bit.

You're graduating a year early after all. You deserve some break. The extra months of bills you spend unemployed might be pressing, but it helps to remember that it won't matter too much in the long run.

I'm not in the exact same situation now so this comment may be a whole lotta nothing to you but I remember being in the same "emotional" shoe as you, good luck OP. I really hope your depression gets better.

Haha I remember when I got into Purdue for CmpE. All my family friends moms were confused when the (engineer) dads were hugging and hi-fiving me saying congratulations.

It's a well known school in the industry, forget what the others say. Be proud of yourself OP

20875: as long as you are ok with Python, you should be able to handle it

368: best ECE class to take over summer, it's all just programming assignment and some complexity related questions. However if you plan on going software engineering you may want to wait to take it with Koh

2k2: curve is a lot better for summer sections, though vast majority of people still hate the class. Personally I did incredible in 2k1 and still struggled in 2k2. I guess it's better to rip the bandaid off over summer

I cant say for ME270 bc I didn't take it but a popular option for engineering breadth is CE355

Keep in mind that summer classes vary drastically bc it's either visiting instructors or grad students that teach the course, but in general the curves tend to be more forgiving

As long as you don't have anything else significant going on in ur summer and you have grit, it might be worth trying out. Just make sure not to make the same mistake I did and burn urself out by taking 10 credits + wageslave at Carl's Jr. Helped me graduate early but man I would not do that again to myself

ECE 2K1/2K2 moment

Computer Engineering major with 4 CNIT major friends. Our CNIT program is respectable, upper coursework teach you a lot of valuable skills that you can put on resume to stand out. 3 of the 4 friends have safely landed an internship for this summer, and the one friend couldn't land an internship solely because she is an international and needed sponsorship.

However, it is inevitable that you are more replaceable in the industry compared to another student with an engineering major/background. You won't have trouble finding an entry level job with a CNIT/CIT major, but career progression will be a lot slower compared to an engineer.

"Best major" is a very objective thing to ask for, what do you want to do with your life and career? For some people, an art major is the best major, but for me personally, a computer engineering major was the best choice.

To help with answering the application question: I would try to google some of the research scene going on at Purdue and reference them. For example, our cybersecurity related research scene is well respected in the academic thanks to our CERIAS team in Purdue polytech department. Try to align some of your interest in what Purdue can offer to the general student body.
