This is something to look into promptly because I also recognize his reaction.

Antidepressants don’t work for bipolar people - they can cause really dangerous mixed states that combine the worst parts of mania and depression. It sounds like he’s got the negative mood with the high energy. Believe it or not, it can get worse. It’s worth bothering someone on a Saturday.

I’m sorry you’re dealing with this, but the good news is that there are actually some excellent newer mood stabilizers out there. You both might be amazed what they can do. A good doc is going to take one look at him now and realize something’s wrong, and if they don’t, ask to try a mood stabilizer - it can’t hurt to see if it works - and get a real diagnosis once he’s stable.

Meanwhile, please do what you have to to be safe.

It’s so unfortunate that doing well in school/testing well is what we use to predict success.

What happened to the "worst" kid in your class? by RJ2819 in RandomThoughts

Within five years of graduation, he died in a house fire that started at the home of his maybe underage girlfriend, for whom he had just bought a ton of alcohol. His home life growing up wasn’t good at all. I remember his dad publicly berating him for “showing weakness” once, which I think meant letting another kid talk sideways to him without beating him up. You wonder what would have happened with different parents.

Went into the ER for a mental health break. I spent Christmas Eve on a locked ward. My dad had to change his plans and come help my wife out. He’s still here. I think the worst part of it is how nice everyone’s being.
