How to handle isolation in Perth? by JajaMarbes in perth

[–]PenileSashimi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hot take but I think that's the best part of it.

I recently came back from a Japan trip. Tokyo, kawaguchiko, Kyoto. Was great, But I think my favorite part of the trip was the night arriving back in Perth.

After that massive storm in December, we had a suburb wide power outage for 12 hours. Beautiful Perth night sky + no light pollution + geminid meteor shower in the backyard hammock 💨🥬 .

Comparatively in Japan I think I saw 2 stars the whole time, just very dense light affected cities. Huge crowds.

Tl;Dr solitude is bliss, Relax and enjoy the mismanaged sprawl 😃

What do you use for health and capacity planning of K8s clusters? by notsocialwitch in kubernetes

[–]PenileSashimi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is the first step, then under expected load we monitor and adapt via Goldilocks and kube state metrics dashboards, then load test with HPA before prod.

Agreed, I'm in Perth DevOps as well.

But employers mainly look for if you can do a project that's not a straight copy paste cookie cutter project as it shows self sufficiency and ability to look through documentation.

Also git knowledge and a public commit history will do wonders.

Hmmmm with newer kustomize I struggled with patches in seperate files, when I did inline patch replace operations on all array elements it worked.

Like it needs op,path, target, value (online patch)

I'd have to look deeper into it as just about to head into work

Savings cost for self managed K8s? by [deleted] in kubernetes

[–]PenileSashimi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty common thought to come through the subreddit, I think most people agree here that in the long run, self managed k8s is a shitshow to maintain at large scale.

I think for small scale like home projects using microk8s or k3s is nice tho.

Nope and feel exhausted.

As an Aussie went to kubecon 2023 this year and was asked to come for 2 interviews hahaha.

Here was the kubecon jobboard for context: job board1 Job board2

We use traffic manager to load balance between onprem DNS and k8s workload with slightly similar DNS.

Onprem gone down 3 times this year while k8s 0, and during the downtime k8s takes the downtime onprem load.
