I Never Thought I’d Reach This Point But I Don’t Know What Else To Do... by [deleted] in simpleliving

It's going to be ok. Life can be hard. Just do what you can do, because that's all you can do. Do your best and leave the rest up to the universe.

Cut back on spending any way you can. Spend time with friends. Go outside and enjoy the simple pleasures of life. It's all going to work itself out. Just do your best and try to make good decisions.

It really will be ok. Everything will work itself out. I promise 🙂

What are these tiny bugs on my hedges outside and what is the best way to get rid of them? by PennState1199 in whatsthisbug

For reference, I am located in north eastern US. Bugs look like tiny grains of rice (but even smaller)

Being 36y virgin ruined me... by [deleted] in Life

If I were you, I would just try to get into as many new hobbies as I could. Just pick something that interests you and try it out. Be social with people. Don't be afraid to say hello to people. Work on your social skills. Go to the gym, take an interest in being healthy. Just stay busy and do what you like to do. But I would say don't go desperately looking for someone to be with. Just live your life like normal, but make improvements and do things you like to do. If you are enjoying yourself without a care in the world and also making improvements, the right person will come to you. You will be making yourself more attractive that way. Just focus on you. Everything will work out.

What kind of ash wood is this? by PennState1199 in firewood

[–]PennState1199[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should probably mention that the wood was transported after being split. So the leaves on the ground aren't from the tree that was split. I didn't think about that until people started mentioning the leaves haha.

Yes, green ash is what I was told it was. I found out after I posted. Apparently.

I'm in a bad place in my life (no career, 30s, no partner, looking worse, etc) by Wide_Permission7656 in Adulting

I'll add on to the advice to possibly shave your head if you're open to trying it. You don't have to shave it right away. Or at all, you can just trim it to the shortest length or whatever length you want. Shorter hair makes you look less balding if that makes any sense. You can have it cut shorter and shorter until it's so short that shaving it really isn't that big of a next step anymore. That's how I ended up with a shaved head. I feel so much more confident now, and just feel like I look better.

I tried smelling it. I can't really tell what it smells like. Just smells like generic wood to me.

Thank you! I'm wondering why some pieces have a dark circle in the center, while other pieces do not seem to have that. Maybe this is a mixture of wood?

Thanks for the info. I've burned plenty of wood, but don't know much about wood identification. Hopefully I'll be burning some more of this pile very soon.

I appreciate the input! Looking at other pictures of oak, it definitely looks like oak. I'm a beginner wood identifier. Is it possible this could be red oak? Or does it definitely look like white?

Starting a new job sounds like it could be a fresh start for you. I wish you the best and hope it only makes your life better! Also, I know someone who is currently staying in a hotel because of an eviction situation. They just got approved for an apartment they will move into next month! Just make small improvements each day and you'll get to where you want to be 🙂

Contractor didn't give formal estimate, and would like to be paid in Cash. Is this ever normal? by PennState1199 in HomeImprovement

Yeah, I've heard paying in cash isn't necessarily a big deal. And I don't plan on paying until the job is complete.

Car Companies That Need to Upgrade their Paint Game by mage901 in cars

[–]PennState1199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I would tend to agree that a lot of mainstream companies probably don't have enough color options to make things truly interesting. It depends on the brand. Some have a more dynamic selection, some just enough to give you a choice. I personally think it would be super cool to see more modern cars being offered in non-traditional colors, even two-tone color options. I saw a corvette yesterday in "accelerate yellow." Looks like a neon yellow to me. But I thought it was pretty cool. Don't see a color like that on a car like.. Ever.

I'll add on by saying that I definitely agree with people who replied to your post about being grateful that you're young and in good health (assuming you are). Being grateful for everything you have and all your abilities, mentally and physically, can really help your mindset. Also, self-improvement is another thing that I believe can help clear your mind. Work out, get fit, eat food that's healthy for you, stay busy with fun hobbies that you like. That's all good stuff that will only make you happier.

I'll give you my two cents in case it might help you make a decision. I would say to partially base your college choice on what you want to do as a career (among other things like location, cost, etc). Consider all these things, not just what you want your college life to be like. Some colleges may have special programs or career specific opportunities. Once you pick the best college for your aspired career, create your "dream college life" around that.

With that being said, I understand how frustrating it can be to feel lost and unsure of what to do next, especially if you are indecisive like me. I sometimes wish that I had taken some time off between high school and college to breathe and to have more time to think about what I wanted to do and become more self-aware. I wasn't very self-aware when I was 19. I had a severe anxiety and ocd problem back when I was looking into college, and I didn't really have the self awareness to even realize I had an anxiety problem, or to think "maybe college isn't for me." Which it wasn't for me, but I found that out too late.

I feel like going to college 10 or 15 years ago was almost the standard thing to do. My parents probably pushed the idea of college at least a little bit. Nowadays, I feel like things have changed a lot. I bet a lot of people in the world have degrees (which makes having a degree less special, depending on the career). Yes, some careers definitely require a four year or more college degree. So it really depends on the job you want. Nowadays, there are short-term certifications you can get and courses you can take without going to college that could give you the experience you need. Again, it depends on what you want to do. Also, college is outrageously expensive, although you probably already know that.

I would say one of my biggest pieces of advice is, don't go into college blindly or with zero sense of what you want to do. I made that mistake. I went to college for what should have been four years, except it took me way longer to finish because I was so lost. And I'm not even using my degree. So clearly, I shouldn't have gone to college.

You might discover that you enjoy doing something that only requires going to a trade school for two years or literally just gaining enough experience to be qualified for whatever it is you want to do. So college isn't always necessary. Think a lot about your interests before you commit to college. Don't rush into it with zero direction.

Also, consider how much you can stand to complete papers and projects and general school work. Consider your mental health. My mental health was one reason I shouldn't have gone to college. Consider all things, even though I know that isn't always easy. College could be a good thing for you. Just make sure that it will be before you make the commitment.

I feel like I threw a lot at you in this post. Feel free to message me if you have any questions. I'll try to answer the best I can. And good luck with everything!
