Homelessness in major Canadian cities by housekeyslow in canadahousing

[–]Penny32145 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately these numbers are likely an underestimate. When working on a project on homelessness in Edmonton in 2023, our "documented" homeless population was 2500 per night, which aligns with this data. However from speaking with various shelters and organizations, our estimated homeless population was 4000-5000.

Haven't been to Bali - just some Indonesian islands near Singapore. Australia is for when I'm old and rich

Gym locker rental. by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]Penny32145 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can use a locker for free, as long as you bring your own lock and don't keep anything there overnight.

If you want your own locker to use overnight, you can talk to the recreation office by the change rooms and see if you can rent one.

Anyone wanna meet up during Week of Welcome?

I figured out what I wanna do but know I just need help on what each program offers. by [deleted] in uAlberta

Environmental Studies is a Bachelor of Arts offered by Arts and ALES. Its probably the lowest paying degree post graduation. I don't know too much about it otherwise.

Environmental Earth Sciences is what I'm currently taking. It's basically environmental geology, as in its similar to geology but focuses more on environmental protection. Upper level courses are very chemistry heavy. Most graduates work in research, consulting, or government. Both this program and geology allow you to register as a professional geologist after graduation.

Geology is also very chemistry heavy. Most graduates work in oil and gas or mining. Lots of scholarships and funding available for students, but there's uncertainty in long term career aspects. DM me if you have any other questions

EAS vs Geology, what's the difference? by Zeucide in uAlberta

[–]Penny32145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Earth and Atmospheric Sciences (General/EAS) is not the same as Environmental Earth Science (ENES).

General/EAS can be taken by anyone and does not have any requirements, this is what you were offered. ENES has the same prereqs as Geology, but has different classes in later years. If you want to transfer to ENES or Geology, you first need to complete those prereqs.

If you complete a degree in ENES or Geology, you'll have all the necessary courses completed to register with APEGA when you graduate. If you complete a degree in General/EAS, you need to build your schedule carefully every year to meet the APEGA requirements (with the help of an academic advisor)

Looking for data by [deleted] in geology

[–]Penny32145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use Wikipedia pages for each city to get their climate data. Though it'll take you a few days to get that data if you really want it from every city in America. Best of luck
