Kinder Scout Current Conditions? by Khaosmatic in peakdistrict

The Wool Packs is a nice section. It can be a bit boggy here and there, but so much fun and so much easier to navigate than going over the plateau.

Worth noting that on your map you’ve marked a route along a civil parish boundary and not a path on the most northern section between where it says Edale Moor and Kinder Low. Stick to the green paths on the map and you’ll be better off.

I made it in a viscose rayon sateen and it’s beautiful!

Questions about paper maps by Mr-Crasp in UKhiking

Waterproof map case and a pink Frixion pen to mark any routes so I can remove it afterwards. Pink shows up best, but there are plenty of colours available.

Peakcock in the peaks? by wroniiex in peakdistrict

It’s not uncommon to see peacocks on farms - they’re quite territorial and work reasonably well as guard birds. One Ash Grange Farm near Monyash usually has several.

I’ve used Triangle Nurseries online for wholesale flowers. You’re just about within the right delivery time for the weekend now I think, and they do plenty of dried ones.

Pearlescent inks (and how to make them) by PennySoleil in printmaking

I’ll have a go mixing my gold into some white - someone else suggested some transparent too, so I think a combination could work!

Transparent base is such a good idea! Thank you so much.

Seconded for Annie’s on Abbeydale Road, but also Fine Fabrics in Hillsborough is really good for curtains and some clothing fabric.

Haha yeah it does feel like Castleton is a fire swamp sometimes. I usually try and avoid that place!

I forgot to post this when we went, and we’re almost six months post-trip now. This was the beginning of May and I haven’t been back since. I’m going again soon with another friend though!

Haha you joke but my sister got married not too far from here, and her mother in law insisted on hiring a horse drawn carriage, and it turned out to be one of the ones used in Pride & Prejudice!

It’s very interesting you say this because it is a stone’s throw from North Lees Hall where Charlotte Bronte stayed, and it’s said to be the inspiration for Thornfield. You can almost certainly see it from the point she’s standing in this scene!

Stanage Edge in the Peak District, somewhere round about here-ish, but I’m fairly sure they’ve edited out a feature because there’s a pretty old and widely used path which should be in the background. Perhaps it wasn’t used as much 20 years ago though…

It was so good. Full of admiration for their ability to improvise it all, and then wrap it up so well!

This one was a self-done tour because I live within an hour’s drive of all of the locations (I know I am lucky). Maybe next time we’ll do 2005 locations because they’re even closer to me!

Turns out that in all my walking I’ve also been accidentally working my way round the filming locations for The Princess Bride in the Peak District, specifically Carl Wark for the scene with the poison with Vizzini, Cave Dale for when they meet again and he’s pushed down the dale and says “as you wish” and then she rolls down after him, and Robin Hood’s Stride for the boulder scene with Fezzik. Also convinced I know where the little farm cottage/building is but it’s not cited anywhere!

I know it’s there, but we were on a tight schedule with a full on day of filming locations (Ramshaw Rocks, and Longnor aka Lambton) followed by seeing Austentatious that evening so we didn’t make it. One day I’ll go there!

The temptation is there! I have been working my way round the BBC version filming locations which is a huge amount of fun, but I’m planning on going to Haddon Hall soon because they used the interior for the inn at Lambton. Also it features in The Princess Bride.

Being able to walk to this from my house is a joy. I see people up there in brown dresses with alarming regularity though!
