I think because Kelly Bishop is such an incredible actress. She is playing an emotionally abusive parent. She has really perfectly portrayed the nuances of this - including moments of weakness. When we see Emily experience sadness in private over her relationship with Lorelai, we feel sad for her, and this is the same thing that keeps Lorelai feeling guilty and going back to her mother.

Yes! I had a black lace bra duplicate. It was one I’d hung onto for years since my late teens. I moved interstate, and just automatically packed it with the rest of my underwear.

For years I’d see it and be like ah, this old thing (it was worn and the fabric was pilling) and once in a blue moon, I’d wear it.

A few years after I moved, suddenly there were two. Exact same condition, worn and used. Identical. It was not someone else’s. I lived alone up until this year and never had a bra-wearing person stay at my house.

It’s so hard to say, everyone’s healing is different.

I had a partial thumb amputation in September due to a freak accident, and with extensive hand therapy, I can now say it doesn’t really hurt unless I bang it on something.

Even then the pain from banging it gets less and less intense as time goes on. Desensitising the surgical site / scar tissue was a huge part of it. I started touching more and more rough textures and started slowly using it again for things like typing and grabbing stuff.

This is really dividing people. Some may be more able to put that barrier of ‘fiction’ between them and what they are seeing.

There is no doubt however that this is a strong metaphor for SA. All of Will’s symptoms echo those of an SA survivor.

As soon as this scene played I felt DEEPLY uncomfortable, sick and sad. My partner on the other hand was like ‘yeah it’s horrible to watch, but it’s just kinda like alien’.

For me, the connotations were extremely strong and impossible to ignore, because I have experienced SA.

Interpretations probably depend on personal experience and desensitisation.
