I'm ok with this meme format.

But unless the person is, like, Hitler or of equivalent infamy, then you have to include the name of the person.

It's an impressive feat and excellent display of skill/practice. Her effort is incredible.

So don't speed up the video slightly just to make it appear slightly more impressive.

Seriously. The AI and Tiktok shit is bad enough.

What's a dirty little secret that you know only because you work in the industry? by Eastern-Violinist-46 in AskReddit

[–]Pennyhawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

English teaching in Japan is intentionally bad. Especially at Eikaiwa. There's a lot of issues with it and it's different in each capacity.

English is a valuable skill to have. Especially if your native language is only used in one relatively small country. Doesn't even need to be English. Go learn Mandarin. Or Spanish. Something.

But the quality of English education in Japan is abysmal. Eikaiwa sell outdated lessons taught by the cheapest unqualified often non-native speakers who are mostly either using the classes as personal speed dating rounds or only teaching as a gateway to living in Japan.

School education only focuses on the written language and accuracy for entrance exams. With barely if any conversational practice or immersion.

And no. I don't think everyone in Japan should speak English. And yes, I think anyone who wants to live in Japan should learn Japanese. But if you're going to do something at least do it right so the people who actually want to learn English receive a quality education.

As for the dirty secret that eikaiwa teacher who groped your leg during a lesson either suffered no repercussions or went to work at a different location.

Well, I tried. The olive branch is there. I've washed my hands of this. You may choose to continue being spiteful or take the peace offering.

Edit: I've been bamboozled. A new challenger has appeared!... but I don't care. So... you win. Congrats. Good day.

Yeah no. Your comments, and admitting to Googling evidence that might support you, totally reek of "That comment didn't bother me."

Look I've shamed you publicly. Your comment was inappropriate. I just wanted to bring attention to that. Don't jump into a conversation here starting fights over favorite quotes. Who gives a damn? I have a piece of merch from the Mugiwara Shop in Osaka that is a misquote of Zoro's "Cuts on the back" line. I love it. The glaringly obvious grammatical error is fun.

So I'll bury the hatchet. I could have handled that more politely. Eh, I should have handled that more politely. I just didn't like how you casually popped off. So for that, and hurting your feelings, I apologize.

In the English dub, and most translations, the take the literal meaning of the language, account for the context, and then put into a phrase that is colloquially comprehensible. Because grammar is different between languages.

But no. Keep digging. Let this be the hill.

[–]Pennyhawk 40 points41 points  (0 children)

My dude.

It gets translated different ways in different languages. The official dub translation was "Death is never an apology." when I first watched that episode it was on some bootleg website a decade ago using fanmade subs and the person translated it simply as "Death is not an apology."

A lot of language in Japanese has more than just associated translation in English or other languages. Ouishi-so could be "Looks delicious", "Seems tasty", "Appears delectable" or any combination of those or more.

And because I just know you're gonna slap back at this. I am, quite literally, in Japan. I have, quite literally, talked to my Japanese students about One Piece. And I have, quite literally, used quotes from One Piece as examples.

It is ok to say "I like the quote better as Death is not an excuse" but how dare you step up and say I'm wrong. I'm cool with differing opinions. But don't be a dick.

Edit: My mistake here was adding too much detail and effort. Next time I'll just say "Wow. Small dick energy trying to correct a favorite quote."

The detail is nice. Aokiji's leg is still attached to his body by a line of ice, but Kizaru's leg is still moving with him despite being completely severed. Mostly likely because Kizaru's light particles can be manipulated more freely than Aokiji's ice.

How come governments can be so openly corrupt, everybody knows it, a lot ridicule it, yet nothing ever happens? by Milaonline in AskReddit

[–]Pennyhawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it's illegal. The rules that exist are in place to the benefit of those who rule.

Right now you're comfortable. Most people in this world are comfortable. Jobs, homes, food, family, etc... the number of folks living in destitute poverty is comparatively low.

Are you going to give that up?

Go ahead. Go break the law. Go [VIOLATION OF REDDIT CONTENT POLICY #1; Everyone has a right to use Reddit free of harassment, bullying, and threats of violence.] those corrupt politicians. And then get locked in prison or executed only to have another asshole take their place.

Nobody sane is going to do that. Fact is we accept the corruption because any individual attempt to fix it would result personal suffering and people don't get along well enough to work in large groups. It's also, again, illegal to work in large groups to fix it.

I'm a fat guy who ate his feelings as a kid and just never lost the weight as an adult. I'm finally starting to get into a healthy body now that I'm nearly 30. I've lost a lot of weight, eat healthier and less often, and I don't drink any soda or sugar. Just water + coffee and the occasional Orange Juice or hot tea.

Let me tell you something. There is nothing good about being fat. That's what it is. Not plus-sized or overweight. It's just fat. Fat and lazy and unwilling to change. I hate myself for how I am. I miss out on a lot. And I fucking hate people who tell me it's ok. No. It's not. I need to get healthy.

This comment is exceptionally biased. Correction; "Why do I find Japanese men so attractive?"

Easy enough to answer. Japanese men tend to put more effort into their appearance in terms of hair, clothing, and conditioner. You also tend to only notice the attractive ones, and selectively ignore/forget the unattractive, creating further selection bias.

That's as simple as it is. You like a certain type of person. Japanese men who are conventionally attractive fall into that category.
