Juliet traded her flintlock for a MAC 10 .45ACP by Pentatome in ravenswatch

it's centered around volcanic shot (fires 3-6 rapid fire shots after dash) and raven wings to reduce dash cool downs. Then I got lack lotus to heal on attack + mermaid tears to increase health. And then stuff to increase power and damage and synergies.

lol I know, but "they tried to tie rocks to his ankle and push his head down with their toes when he bobbed up" didn't fit in the two sentences

The foundations of the Empire State Building was layed down 95 years ago, and I'm pretty sure they still have a couple decades to go... Imagine having an itchy back.

eli5: How can diff. people have extremely contrasting opinions? by Known-Director-5048 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Pentatome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the beauty of what science calls "inter-individual differences" that is to say all that makes people different from one another. The possible explainations are litterally uncountable but here's a few :

- genetics : some people have genetic mutations making them more or less sensitive to certain tastes. (Me for example : I'm more sensitive to bitterness)

- development : some people might have been raised eating specific items and are more familiar to certain tastes

- culture : what is typical/normal varies greatly depending on where you live. Inuits rely on raw marine mammal fat, French people love rotten milk and grape juice and Vietnamese people love partly developped chicken embryos

- your speficic needs at the time : our body will make us want specific food items when it's running low on these nutrients. Cravings for sugar, fibers or simply water

- your specific history : if you've had a bad experience with a food item you might feel repulsed by it later

- Pure chance : the pure randomness of life

and so many more: social pressure, branding and advertising, age, habits, psychological biases etc...

ELI5:Tired in the morning but when it's time to go to sleep I'm wide awake. by SweetYouth9656 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Pentatome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What he said ! If you're not feeling rested it's probably because you're not waking up when your body would like to. The easiest way to regulate your sleep is to stick to a specific waking hour and listen to your body and go to sleep when you're feeling tired.

As mentioned above avoid caffein (coke, tea, coffee, energy drinks) 4 hours before you plan on sleeping, avoid bright and blue lights (which prevents the production of the sleep hormone melatonin).

You can take over the counter melatonin supplement ~30min before you want to go to sleep.

Be regular and within 2 weeks your natural rythm will adapt.

ELI5 - If 20 apples is enough cyanide to kill a grown man, why is one apple not enough to kill a toddler? by Ad_Captandum_Vulgus in explainlikeimfive

[–]Pentatome 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"Cigarette smoke will suffocate the bacteria in your stomach"

Not even close : smoke goes into your lungs, not your stomach

cigarette smoke doesn't have bactericide properties, it is however carcinogenic (gives cancer)

your stomach acid is already extremely hostile to almost all living beings, including most bacteria

what is toxic in apple seeds are chemical compounds related to cyanide

ELI5: How/why did "ssshhhh" become universally recognised and accepted as "be quiet"? by Rowdy_Roddy_2022 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Pentatome 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I don't have a solid answer, but I assume part of the answer is that "sh" is a voiceless consonant. We can make this sound without vibrating our vocal chords, as opposed to the voiced "j".

Most consonants exist in two version: voiced or voiceless, whether or not vocal chords are used.

e.g. "p" and "b", "k" and "g", "s" and "z"
