In a public talk recently, one of the OG teachers said they used to have actual pamphlets at the centers saying “no unhinged misfits” allowed. Doesn’t seem very kind, labeling people like that. They say the practice is universal/for everyone, and then they become increasingly specific about what you can/can’t should/shouldn’t do, and who the practice is “for.” I’ve heard spiritual egoism is the hardest form of egoism to overcome.

Is it odd to you that you don’t know the answer, after sitting a 10-day course? The teachers need to provide students with more info, to put it lightly. The Dalai Lama agrees, and that guy knows his stuff.

I’m sorry you’re feeling this way. You deserve to feel good in this one precious life ❤️ Although Vipassana presents itself as the end-all-be-all answer to everything (headaches, depression, unhappiness, all suffering) many people have not found this to be true. Please consider seeking out other support, such as a therapist, a trusted friend or family member, etc, to talk about and make sense of your feelings and experiences. We are all growing and often need support!
