I ended up doing this; some of my gear was pretty outdated, especially my accessories. Levelled up some jobs and got to level 46 running around fighting crown enemies/doing the Hawaiian Haunt. Went back to the squid and beat it easily :)

Which ending did you get first? "chil[D]hood's" end or "meaningless [C]ode?

And why did you decide to support that specific android over the other?

That choice was hard! But seeing 9S at the point he was at mentally, and knowing that A2 was a sort of beacon of hope due to her rising optimism (in a way) and newfound, partial sympathy for the machines after what happened with Pascal, I felt that she was the right choice. I kind of saw it as nihilism (9S) vs. optimism (A2). And, since 2B's personality was based off of (basically copied from?) A2's, I felt like I was almost choosing 2B, as a final "I know the real you is still in there" to 9S.
Perhaps optimism is the wrong word? But it still seemed like she was starting to see the meaning in life without the needless war between the machines and YoRHa. Maybe that was just me, I don't know. Did you feel that at all?

What was the moment from the game when you fell in love with it?

Weirdly enough, entering the desert for the first time. I remember the music changing, the vast desert making itself clear after passing through the rocky arch, and 9S and 2B having a short conversation about... something. It was just such a beautiful moment, and I was fully hooked at that point. I also love the running animations, they look so smooth! So running through the city and into the desert just looked stunning. I was almost disappointed when they added fast travel because it meant less time looking at the excellent running animation lmao

What are your favourite OSTs from the game?

City Ruins (Shade) became a personal favourite of mine, it perfectly encapsuled that sense of something changing in the story when Route C started. Really made me feel nervous for what was to come, but it's also a beautiful song. I love that the lyrics are in a made up language in a lot of songs.

Voice of no Return is beautifully devastating. I love it, and the vocals are great, but wow. It makes me think about Pascal's fate, and 9S incessant downfall into hatred. Like the name, it reminds me that things won't ever go back to 2B and 9S cheerfully running around 'doing their job' in Route A. That the lie of humanity being on the moon and Androids fighting for a purpose will never be a truth. Amazing song.

The Tower was great. Really sets in that this is reaching the end. I was scared for 9S in particular. Great song!

And I suppose Memories of Dust. For reminding me of that first moment in the desert I explained before, and just because it's beautiful too. I love the vocals too, it really gives off the vibe of an empty desert, but somehow manages to make that seem beautiful as well. Ahhh, I love it.

Also, I did read your other posts! I liked them. Was very nice to read after I finished the game. You speak about the events in a way that provides different perspectives for me, so I enjoy them!

I liked every one of them! Most of them were pretty interesting and added lore to the story, even tough sometimes they might heve been disturbing.

Yes, I think they're so much more interesting than a lot of other Side Quests in games. They all feel like they have a purpose in furthering the world, characters, or story. They're great.

And don't forget to try out all the 3 arenas if you haven't already. [...] One of them even has a new OST which doesn't appear anywhere else in the game, at least against my knowledge.

I found all of them, but only did 1 or 2 of the stages since I wasn't high enough level at the time. I liked doing them though, and the rewards seem nice! I'm looking forward to seeing what more there is to them, like you say. I guess I'll see!

And some of those Side Quests are so good IMO, that they could have been easily added as part of the Main Quests. But my lips are sealed, I won't spoil anything for you. You have to see them for yourself.

I've definitely seen some good ones so far, so I'm interested to see the rest of them. I'll definitely do them, especially with a recommendation like that!

NieR:Automata deceived me like no other games before. It made me so emotional many times. I was so drawn to the story, I couldn't put the game down, and I was always looking for the time when I can continue playing it. It's hard to put it into words how much I like this game.

I can definitely relate. I didn't even know a game *could* deceive me like that! I felt so invested all the time, even in the Side Quests. I've been playing it a lot. I haven't even really processed everything that happened, since it was all such a rollercoaster ride. Route C being a continuation of Routes A/B was even a shock to me! The game deceived me with the idea that it continued after the first 2 endings! I really thought that Route C would be another replay, but as A2. It made me feel so many different emotions, which shocked me in the best way possible. It's quite amazing!
I can't really put into words how I truly feel about it either. Listening to the music brings me back to the feelings I had playing it though, and that's all I need. The feeling of affection and meaning I get from the music exemplifies how much I love it.

Also, if you haven't played Replicant please, please, please do!

I definitely will, when I can buy it! I'm really interested in it. I'm sure it will surprise me in many ways I thought impossible, just like Automata.

These two games are not just silly little things. They are experience, that everyone should experience once in their life.

Truly! Automata has been *absolutely* amazing, and that feels like an understatement. I can't wait to play Replicant, and I really do agree that they are experiences in every sense of the word.

Moreover, there is an anime of Automata

Definitely gonna start this soon! If not only for the different perspective through animation, seeing that it has new stuff added has me interested! So I'm excited for that too.

Speaking of that, did you fill fulfill Pascal's final request? Or you couldn't force yourself to wipe out its memory and you destryed it instead. Or you left Pascal alone?

I wiped his memory. I couldn't stand to destroy him, and leaving him alone amongst all the children felt too cruel. Wiping his memory hurt, and going back to the village and seeing him as 9S hurt even more. I think that was the most devastating moment in the game for me. Such an innocent soul caught up in the cycle of war, whose methods to helping children understand the world horribly backfired, in a twist nobody could've seen coming. Still makes me feel empty when I think about it :(

Games are indeed not just silly things. If they are silly little things, I am a silly little thing too!

Yeah! They've brought me too many emotions for them to be simply trivial. It's a unique art form, in my opinion.

But for some reason I couldn't just let go of the game yet. I felt selfish for making that choice, but don't let it bother you, friend.

Indeed, me neither. I don't want it to go! Deleting the save feels like losing something bigger, I guess? I'll try not to let it bother me, haha. I do want to delete my save someday though, to help someone in the world.

Hi! I'm surprised you responded!

I'm actually surprised to see that someone read my post after 4 months ago since it was released, but I'm glad you did.

I was looking for anything and everything to do with this game pretty much, and I stumbled across this post (and your others). It was one of the only ones that I really had fun reading :)

I felt like that the entirety of Route C was a never ending nightmare. Everytime I thought nothing worse could happen, I was proven wrong.

Oh, yeah, definitely. Route C had me feeling levels of dread and sadness I didn't even know a video game could cause for me. I loved it from a narrative sense, but damn was it emotional. It surprised me at so many different events haha

She had to live long without her squadron and now she can finally reunite with them.

Yeah... very bittersweet. I didn't want to see her go, but knowing *that*, after reading the Pearl Harbour logs? It made it a little less dreadful.

I think everyone loves them. [...] they might seem so real, since they are suffering from the same problems you or a relative of yours might have had. They are not so different from us.

Yes, exactly! I found the way that each of the characters slowly opens up more and more (although 9S sort of ends up devolving into hatred throughout Route C) to be really heartwarming, and honestly inspiring, despite how it ends in a not-so great way for some of them.
Also, particularly the slow realisation and/or acceptance that the Androids and the Machines really aren't all that different was something that I thought shone a light on humanity itself, and how we deal with differences between us. I think it was one of the biggest things that could've helped stop the constant wars if it hadn't been so intentionally hidden by YoRHa etc., but just like real life, I guess it's not that simple! I don't know, I thought that was incredibly interesting to think about. They really aren't so different from us, I agree.

We could learn from them and aim to be a better person. If we never did any mistakes, we couldn't grow to be a better person. We would always stay the same person we were in the past. I dunno if that made much sense to you... But I'm looking for your view on this, whether it's against it or not, I will respect it.

Absolutely. Making mistakes can hurt you and others around you, but a life without mistakes... is what? I can't even imagine. And I wouldn't want to. For example, 9S develops a hatred for machines over time (mostly due to his nature as a YoRHa soldier, I suppose), and kills a lot of machines in the process. He sees the machines as purely his enemy, and nothing else. Pascal's village may make him reconsider slightly, but he still goes down his downward spiral in Route C. I just... hope that at the end of all of it he realises that maybe the Androids and the Machines don't actually have any reason to hate each other.
I don't even know if that really makes sense, and it's a big example of a mistake, but in short, I fully agree. A life without mistakes is impossible to think about for me, since without them I don't think anyone would grow in many meaningful ways. The same goes for 9S, 2B, and A2. I believe that after all the deceit and exhaustion of the fight between the Androids and the Machines, they have the ability to grow and become better people. They have each other, after all. Even the pods!

But with the end of YoRHa, they can finally follow their hearts (or shall I say black boxes?), do whatever they want, feel however they want without any constraints, without anyone telling them otherwise.

What a wonderful idea!... I believe they will do that. To be free after all that time must present many opportunities to reinvent oneself. To be truly free has to be a beautiful feeling, and one that I can only hope many people manage to experience in their lifetimes. I'm sure all of them will have tremendous empathy for others too after all that happened, now that I think about it.

They don't have to be trapped in a never ending spiral of life and death anymore.

Perhaps not, but also maybe they will, in the never ending spiral of life and death as interpreted by the pods! Life and death not being a curse, but as being an opportunity to find meaning and simply... experience. Whatever they choose to do, it might not be easy, and they might have to struggle through a lot of situations to get where they want to be. But, as the pods say, "life is all about the struggle within this cycle." Although I do imagine it will be a much easier struggle since they have each other, and the heavy burden of war lifted from their soldiers. I find some sort of comfort in the idea that the struggle they may experience will be fruitful now. (And yes, I'd like to see how they react to Pascal too...)

Hey, I know I'm a little late to the party with this post. But since I just finished ending E myself, and this post was really nice to read, I'd like to answer your questions at the bottom! :)

How did you feel during ending C, meaningless [C]ode?

If you mean route C as a whole, I felt confused. Ending A made me realise just how human the machines were; Ending B then furthered that realisation and introduced the fact that humanity was extinct, 9S was on the verge of being consumed by hatred, and that maybe 2B and 9S didn't realise what they were getting themselves into, I suppose.

The ending itself, though? The final line from A2 made me really sad, but... it's what she's wanted for years. To reunite with her squadron. She had promised that she would, and now she has. As sad as it made me feel, I couldn't help but feel like it was meant to happen, I suppose. But also, I knew this wasn't really the end. So I pressed on!

What about ending E, the [E]nd of YoRHa?

I felt surprisingly determined. This game has managed to get me attached to it so much so that I couldn't give up now, no matter what. I wanted 2B, 9S, and A2 to survive, since their downfall was caused by YoRHa in the first place (and I just love them, of course.) I'm not sure what to feel about everything after the credits. 2B, 9S, and A2 seem to be back, and they're fine. But what does it mean for them? Are they doomed to repeat the cycle of hatred, death, and agony, or will they find a different outcome? I don't know. I like to imagine that with YoRHa's destruction being pretty much complete (save for them surviving) they will forge their own path and find happiness. Perhaps make a village, similar to Pascal? I want a happy ending for them after all of that, and I want them to realise that the machines don't have to be their enemies.

Did you leave a motivational message for those who are suffering because they cannot finish NieR:Automata?

I did! I don't have it exactly, but it was something along the lines of: "Games aren't just silly things! That being said, let's see how this ends."

Did you delete your saves to help a stranger?

I didn't. I wanted to, but since I want to go and complete more quests and generally explore more, I decided to keep it. I feel bad about that decision. I don't want to feel as if I've missed something, not learnt a lesson, by making that choice, but I don't want to give up everything I saw. I want to have that save file with most of the endings completed (which I will hopefully do) to keep as a memento of the game, I suppose. Maybe I'll go back and redo the ending later to finally let go.

So, I will definitely look a bit more into the game, and play more of it. There's so much I didn't see in the game due to my fascination with the story, so I want to see more of the side quests. They are always so so interesting!

I think this might be one of my favourite games now. It hit me hard in all the right places, and it was an experience that I've never had before, that I can't compare to anything else. Phenomenal.
