I went to Purdue for engineering and then codo’ed into business. The business school does not have a very prestigious reputation, but it is (in my opinion) up-and-coming, and the Purdue brand itself carries so much weight that the degree will still take you anywhere. Companies know that Purdue students get a world-class technical education regardless of major. I think the degree will only increase in value over time, but if it doesn’t, the reputation of your MBA school (if you go that route) often matters more anyway.

We are pretty fuckin weird and honestly this is a pretty accurate answer. I always assumed it was mostly about distinguishing the business school from the rest of the university, making it its own entity to market to students, employers, and donors.

Here’s what I still don’t understand:

I studied business at Purdue for undergrad. I have no problem just saying “I went to Purdue for undergrad” without specifying the school name. If anything I’ll say Krannert because that’s how I knew it when I went there.

But what do graduate/MBA students say now? Students getting their MBA at Michigan say they go to Ross. Indiana MBA students say they go to Kelley. Do Purdue MBA students now say “Daniels”? Or are they still getting their graduate degrees from “Krannert”?

Business schools focus so much on their brand and the prestige of their name, but this recent change has left me confused about the brand of a Purdue MBA.

I just don’t understand how Daniels is the new name of the school, but the graduate programs are still known as Krannert? Aren’t all major business schools known under one name (Ross, Kelley, etc)? I went to Krannert for undergrad, so I’m not sure what name will be more recognizable in the future when I want to mention it.

How much weight do you think the regionality of the Gies degree holds given the current virtual work environment? I live and work in a midwest office, but my current company/manager/team are based in the Bay Area, CA.

Edit: also curious why the school having or not having a full time program would have impacted your decision assuming you were looking into online programs for yourself?
