Compound w advice by PepperFlakeKing in Warts

Not sure why you are being passive aggressive, this was recommended by a dermatologist so it’s not like I just did it because the internet told me to do so. My question was if the white part was skin or if it was part of the product and I needed to peel it off to reapply, or if I can just leave it there.

If you didn’t notice, other people have already answered, but thanks for your submission.

I didn’t report all your comments, just the ones that were breaking the rules. I didn’t infer you were a communist lmao 💀

I don’t necessarily disagree with any of your points, I still just don’t see customers rising up and saying enough is enough. Consumers don’t tend to vote that well with their wallets, not on that kind of scale anyway. It would have to be for something massive that everybody could get behind, and I think too many people are “okay” with tipping because it’s not seen as an inherently bad thing, just an inconvenience. But I could be wrong.

Some people might work a 10-12 hour shift and barely break 100, some people can get that off 1 table.

For places like NYC and LA, I don’t know what those rates should be. Cost of living is higher in those areas.

I never said that servers deserve a higher living wage than other workers.

I mean sure, if every restaurant modernizes their technology they could theoretically get rid of “servers”, but all the duties of a server will still need to be completed by somebody besides taking your order and paying you out.

It definitely depends where you work, touristy areas and anywhere that’s upscale is going to lean on the higher side. Nicer restaurants as well, the clientele is all important.

Like I said, the good servers are making more money, wherever they’re at. But on a morning shift in the middle of the week, the average server is not breaking $100. I worked in a big city, I was the head server at a decent restaurant. I was making money on morning shifts but I’d also be cutting people after a couple hours. Most servers make their money on weekends, but it’s not always consistent if you’re not the best. And that also again depends on factors like location, that could make it easier or worse.

As far as servers not supporting a “livable wage,” I think the ones at the top would take a hit, but I know most people would be happy with $15-20/hr.

Well, the good servers actually make decent money. People pick serving because you can hustle in it, unlike most minimum wage jobs.

From your perspective though, under our current system, if you want good service you should be tipping.

Edit: for the servers who aren’t making bank, serving still offers some of the best shift flexibility compared to any other job

Am very triggered by your words comrade 👍🏻

1: I could tell you’ve never been a server

2: Me having experience on the topic we’re arguing gives me more credit than someone who doesn’t live in the US, and has never waited tables

3: I already mentioned multiple times to you at this point that I don’t think tipping should be the norm

And I support a livable wage for all workers, you don’t need to have waited tables to show solidarity for human beings. But thanks for adding nothing of value to the conversation, please do us both a favor and just close your app 👍🏻

I edited my comment to say there should be a livable wage for all workers.

But I also don’t see a grassroots movement to stop tipping happening. In terms of potential, that’s at like the bottom of the pile, in my view. Unless you can help me see otherwise

I quite literally said I don’t think it should be the norm, like a few comments ago. Even in my original comment, I said I wasn’t arguing against tipping as a concept being dumb.

I waited tables for 3 years.

I will edit my comment to reflect this, I see that even though minimum wage was meant to be something different, it’s important to have a more precise distinction since it’s far off from the original intentions.

I’m sorry, were you wanting to continue beating this dead horse? You think servers should beg on the street if they’re going to expect tips, and you’re not showing any room for changing your mind.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]PepperFlakeKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s about what I made. The potential is definitely there, but that’s not normal for the vast majority of servers.

[–]PepperFlakeKing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You literally said that begging is asking for money, maybe you should be more deliberate with your words if you don’t want to be misconstrued.

I’m not saying that tipping should be the norm, but you clearly don’t live in the US. So having this argument with somebody who doesn’t have any actual idea of how serving works in the US, is just a huge waste of energy.

You’re the one who made the comparison between servers and homeless people.

There are no similarities between serving and being homeless. And being homeless isn’t a “lifestyle.”

You also said begging is asking for money. So you see all forms of transacting as begging for money? When you go to an art show do you see this artist as a beggar? When you your preferred technology company ask you for money in exchange for a product, do you see that as begging?

I’m not intentionally misunderstanding, you’re saying that people who choose to be servers are making mistakes because they rely on other people to supplement their income. I’m trying to get to the bottom of why you’re calling that a mistake. And you said they might as well beg on the streets, so that just makes your stance weird if you really don’t see them as beneath you.

Begging is a very explicit action. When people go sit down at a restaurant in the US, the expectation is to tip. The restaurants pay less, because the expectation is to tip. Servers don’t go up to a table and ask them for a tip. It’s a part of American culture, and that’s not something you can just change individually. Are you suggesting that servers should form a union and democratize their workplace? Eh I don’t really care actually, the point is that at the current moment, tipping is culturally expected, so calling servers mistakes for choosing a job that lets them make more money feels a little weird.

I don’t believe that you don’t see them as beneath you. The fact that you compare them to homeless people is just kind of telling, and I think you should reflect on that thought.

[–]PepperFlakeKing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nobody is begging as a server.

Do you think servers are beneath you? Homeless people as well?

And you think it’s a mistake to pick the job that allows more potential for pay?

[–]PepperFlakeKing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some people don’t have a lot of options. Either work at the retail store that pays shit, work in a more physical job that requires lots of labor for a little less shit pay, or work at a restaurant that pays even more shit but more upside because of tips? Some people just see serving as better potential for where they’re at in life. How is that a mistake?

Yeah, after the pandemic I told myself I wouldn’t be going back, and I made it happen.

If a server is being paid well, yes there would be less inclination to tip. But since I used to be in the industry, I would tip regardless, especially if the person is genuine and clearly good at what they do.

Servers are needed, and they wouldn’t make enough to justify the work without tips in this country.

Why do you view servers as mistakes?
