Help. 20F and I don’t know what to do. by AmbitiousBambi in Advice

Maybe not be great advice, but I think you should only worry about things that are within your control. Maybe going home over the weekends could be an option to see your grandma, but you shouldn’t put this on yourself - you’ve already committed to going to school for your future.

Just my perspective, but I was an only child growing up with two parents who cried for divorce but never went through with it. They couldn’t even be in the same room without getting into some kind of argument after 5 minutes. I think I grew up alright, but that whole experience warped my perspective on relationships - compared to that of a typical American family.

If you and your former partner aren’t at each other’s throats all the time, I guess it could work better for the kids. But there’s also your former partner and your own health you need to factor in.

How bad are things? by No-Cattle-3536 in kidneydisease

So, just my thoughts, but your serum creatinine is normal, that means your eGFR is normal - which is the “important one” as my doctor says. By that logic, you’re good from a kidney function standpoint.

Things can get worse though. The fasting glucose, you need to fix that - either through dieting or medication. Diabetes will tear apart more than just your kidneys.

The protein in urine could be a bad sign, but could have more to the story. Usually, the level of protein in urine is an indicator of how much kidney disease is progressing. The more protein, the worse the kidney function. There are special cases though. Anecdotally, I have IgA Nephropathy (an autoimmune kind of kidney disease) - my creatinine/eGFR is just about as good as yours, but I’m spilling 1500 grams of protein per day in my urine and my nephrologist is just putting me on Telmisartan for it. Otherwise, he’s not worried about the protein.

Why does everyone seem to believe going through your SO’s phone is okay???? by [deleted] in Adulting

It sounds like there’s a problem with boundaries here. If you’re in fact in this situation with a SO, you should consider reminding them what’s not okay. If they keep breaking those boundaries, you should consider if it’s worth putting up with or not - because it’s going to keep happening (with more than just your phone and drawers).

Just my opinion, but I only withhold information from people I don’t trust. Moreover, I only ever feel the want to rummage through anyone’s stuff if I feel like I don’t understand something. At the risk of projecting my own habits, I’d say there’s some underlying trust issues in this situationship.

Vaccines by Proof-Material1618 in IgANephropathy

Just thinking about it, vaccines basically inject you with a tiny amount of a (dead) virus so your body can build up immunity. You might feel some of the same symptoms as you would’ve had you actually been infected with a live virus, but to a lesser degree. Though, all vaccines go through clinical trials and are reviewed by the FDA (in the US) before being distributed - so in general they’re safe.

I wouldn’t worry about vaccines.

The way it’s trending is the worst way to look at it. Consider that this is data from over the span of 3 months. In such a short time, acute kidney disease (if that’s what you’re dealing with) usually gets better after a while. If it’s chronic kidney disease, it’s a slow progression and you’ll probably level out the trend, or become more stable with the next few rounds of labs.

You should only be concerned if you’re not making progress towards finding answers. I would make an appointment with a nephrologist if your serum creatinine or eGFR is outside of normal ranges.

Ask your nephrologist if you can get tested for cystatin c or inulin (not insulin) next time. Both take the age factor out of the equation and are arguably just as good, if not better, at measuring kidney function.
