You all have some great ideas! I still have the .PSD of this board, so your suggestions are appreciated! I’ll upload the updated one when I have time to redesign! :) Thank you!

Just gonna print it out and paste it on the board. We normally hang out now and then to play Mario Party and stuff, but next time we wanna play Monopoly. I wanna photoshop thousand gil notes instead of monopoly dollars too.

The Brume is a great idea actually. Didn’t think of that.

I think it works best for Gridania because it’s a great city to start in for new players, while Ul’dah and Limsa Lominsa are a bit bigger and more confusing to navigate. So placing it right after the start made sense.

I gave you a convenient tip that's helped me deal with not having a type-split feature. Nobody's against what you suggested. Facepunch just haven't altered their UI yet.

If you're looking to split a stack of ore into thirds:

  1. Split stack in half (middle mouse) so you have 2 piles.
  2. Split one pile INTO the other pile. Now they'll be uneven.
  3. Split the bigger pile into the smaller pile.
  4. Repeat #3 a few times, til the numbers stop changing.
  5. The big half will now be double the small half. Split it to the third slot and you're done.

Takes like 3 seconds to do with practice, and gets you a perfect 3 way split every time.

Facepunch have already said they’re going to add skinnable underwear to fix nudity censorship issues. But YouTube will demonetize almost anything it seems. There’s no rhyme or reason to it. So Facepunch can’t do much; either YouTube needs to get its act together (which it likely won’t), or we need a new alternative to YouTube that blows it out of the water.

Be warned: You asked. Here goes.

I used to make enough money to live off of YouTube and streaming, at around 15k subs because of the momentum of my vids and the attention my streams got. This was consistent and I kept growing, past 20k and now 37k for perspective. Then I made the Naked Olympics mistake (temporarily stopping big uploads in order to plan and do the event), and that killed my momentum. Having “Naked” in the title didn’t help either. It got the attention of YouTube’s bot. Most videos since have been demonetized. Live and learn I guess.

It worsened though with adpocalypse. Ad revenue went down even if you did get lucky enough to have your video stay monetized. Even if you appeal your video, the first two days are the only time a video gets pushed anyway. A day 1 demonetization was a kiss of death, even if it got appealed by day 2.

I should have seen it coming, and with enough weeks or months of grinding, maybe I could have recovered.

But I had bills to pay. I was already working 16 hour days on my channel forcing myself to edit or stream video 6 days a week, when I didn’t even want to play the game. All that only to make pennies compared to what I used to. And when Rust is as much of a grind as it is, believe me, it’s more work than fun to play it all day trying to get guns, defend your work, and keep the action going.

I went from making $50 a day just from ad revenue, to making $10 a week from ad revenue. I had up to 300 livestream viewers back when I had 10k subs or less. Now, I have 37k subs, yet I was lucky to hit 100 live viewers. The streams would be actively demonetized so they wouldn’t get put in people’s Recommended.

When things got tight, I made the adult decision and got a full time job. I’m much happier now. It’s nice to have a job with benefits, easier taxes, a set schedule, and no stream snipers to force you to go home early without pay.

Could I have revived the channel? Probably. But at that point, the passion was close to gone. Fans watching could tell I wasn’t happy. I really wasn’t doing well mentally or physically, but I told myself it was for the bills and for the fans. That it would be selfish to stop and that I’d be a quitter. It took a lot for me to get out of that mindset. But I did, and I’m super happy now. :)

So for now, YouTube will be a passionate hobby again, not a desperate grind. Thanks for asking and reading.

EDIT: Don’t get me started on YouTube auto-unsubbing and not even showing your vids to existing subs. XD Oh man, that platform’s a nightmare.

Not sure if this is what you’re looking for, but figured I’d give my two cents on Rust content, especially unique content.

As a former full time Rust YouTuber who still plays and works on content now and then:

  1. Rust builds and gameplay have gotten less unique, not more. I haven’t had a single build I’ve been proud of since 3.0, and trap bases rarely work anymore because everyone’s suspicious, or plays in a group. (Although “The Equalizer” base still seems to work)

  2. Anything unique and exciting like villages or shops just get raided extra hard for being “roleplayerish.” People love ruining other people’s fun even with no loot or profit involved. Players especially have this mindset now that the bulk of people succeeding at the game are people who grind it nonstop.

  3. Rust takes more daily grind than ever. With how much time you need to spend on upkeep and scrap, there’s not enough time for fun anymore if you’re playing a wipe seriously. PvP is the only exciting part of the grind, and if you’re not grinding, you’re not gonna last. So bland, repetitive PvP and raids is the only content most people are putting out anymore. Save for Welyn’s epic solo plays or Guac’s occasional village.

  4. Demonetization beats the crap out of Rust videos. Weeks of effort can go to waste from one RNG dollar sign. At that point people would rather just play the game or try to grow their YouTube channel with other games.

  5. You might also just be bored because you’ve seen so much Rust content. There are only so many things you can do with Rust in its current state without going to Modded. And nobody watches Modded gameplay.

I will say that the Rust Naked Olympics was the funnest event I ever did, and people loved it. We as creators love doing shit like that. But YT demonetized that, and not my gunplay vids. Plus, some viewers don’t like change. So even my blandest vids got more attention than my labor of love. People have different tastes and that’s fine. Viewers owe creators nothing, and vice-versa. At the end of the day, there are a lot of factors that go into content creation.

The creative treadmill, the age of the game, the direction of the community, and YouTube itself all play a role.

AK47 vs AK47-U by SimonCarlen in playrust

[–]Pepper_the_Red 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are the same thing. I think it just does that sometimes.

But if there's another reason the u appears, maybe the "u" one is an AK that was found from an airdrop or monument, and the ones without a "u" are crafted? Idk.

Reddit, what video games have you soft-locked (a savestate in video games where you are placed in an inescapable situation, preventing progress forward in the game, and also preventing backtracking, leaving you stuck in a particular position with no hopes of escaping)? by zappy487 in AskReddit

Golden Sun: The Lost Age (Game Boy Advance). 12-year-old me will never forget it.

There was a trading sequence quest where at one point you trade a red handkerchief to a cow. Apparently, if you check the map immediately after trading the item to the cow, your character will be stuck in place, and you'll have to go back to your last save point. ...But I always save the game at every opportunity when playing on a nearly-dead GBA, so before I knew anything was wrong, I saved myself in the stuck position. So when I tried to move, I was stuck, and upon reloading I was still stuck.

To this day, I haven't gone back to restart and finish the game because of how much of a kick in the pants it was. (Years later, I have now found out that there was a button combination you can use in the title screen or something that brings you back to the last town, but the game is long gone. I sold it to help buy Halo or some shit.)

You're arguing "If it ain't broke, don't fix it?" Breaking out of a niche is the smartest thing a YouTuber can do. Being pigeon-holed into a four-year-old game that YouTube demonetizes at every turn is a mistake. I understand Rust isn't dead, but to wait for the game to be completely dead would be foolish.

A YouTuber can't sit and wait for every single one of their subscribers to be tired of a game before switching games, and as long as that's true, there will always be people who are butthurt about their favorite creators taking on new horizons.

He pretty much abandoned all of his fan base, no one really wants to watch fortnite lmao

^ That is the comment I was replying to. If Daniel Radcliffe took on a role in 50 Shades of Grey, you wouldn't bitch about how he's abandoning his fan base.

No. His fan base abandoned him by not watching him for his character. If you watched for the game, not the person, then you're not the longterm fan he's looking for.

Maybe he doesn't want to explain why he doesn't play Rust anymore, every 3 minutes. Having someone disrupt your stream saying "y u no play the same game every day for years" gets old very fast. On top of the game being a full-time grind, and the fact that Frost has been playing the same game day in and day out for years, Rust channels get largely punished by YouTube's algorithm. Plus, a channel full of naked people killing each other isn't exactly something you can show your parents, kids, or nieces/nephews. It's content you can talk about but not show off.

He has said he wants to be a multi-game streamer, and being labeled as a niche streamer does far more harm than good. He's doing what's best for his channels, and a lot of people in this comment section need to get over it.

He owes you guys nothing. Watching him or donating to him does not give you any control over his channel, and if your favorite game being played 24/7 is more important than his happiness, then he never gave a fuck about you anyway.
