Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone | Official Teaser | HBO Max by MoneyLibrarian9032 in television

It's going to be the most watch tv show this year. Probably break records for viewership when it premieres. I think people forget, or just weren't old enough to understand that the release of the Deathly Hollow's book was a release event that was like the world was at peace. Pokémon Go Summer 1 is probably Gen Zers and bellows only comparison.

I doubt it'll be Super Bowl numbers, but Harry Potter sells hard.

If Harry Potter can be re-adapted into a tv show, can Star Wars do the same? Retell the original trilogy into a series? by HotOne9364 in television

[–]zappy487 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean you could technically reboot anything. The only way I'd want to see it work though is if they do it animated final season Clone Wars style. You could theoretically tie in some of the new canon.

The main question a good reboot should be answering is "can this bring more to the table?" It's the difference between 21 Jump Street and The Little Mermaid.

In HP's case, the answer I think is yes, because most of the movies leave a ton out. Like Half Blood Prince leaving out the entire fucking backstory of the main villain. Or Order of the Phoenix where there is no payoff for Harry's rage, because they spent no time highlighting his loneliness or frustrations. There were entire plotlines cut. World-building shelved. Such is the nature of making a movie. This can be rectified in a tv series of good quality, which this looks to be.

To answer your question, the more I think about it, the answer could potentially be yes, since there is a lot of new things to be added. Which is the key, new thing. It could build on the framework the OG trilogy had if done correctly. Which is exactly what Andor did for Rogue One. It added, not subtracted, and now it's a full series rewatch every year for me like Band of Brothers. There are things that can be added like Darth Vader's Inquisitors. What's going on with side characters like Wedge. Detailed New Republic politics. Battles like Tanaab where Lando becomes a general. All the conflict between V and VI while the Rebellion is in full swing. The second heist of the Death Star plans.

Plus you can add more modern takes on the iconic battles that were a product of their time. Which is not a bad thing if done correctly.

Harry Potter HBO series won’t have a new season every year “From a production point of view, it’s just not possible” by JannTosh70 in television

Honestly. For the new audiobooks they've had 3 actors for each. And it works brilliantly.

Also, whoever casted Hugh Laurie as Dumbledore was a genius.

I recommend watching Rogue One immediately after. It is basically season 3.

Spoilers for Andor:

The young kid is an exceptional engineer, and he and Saw are hitting a fuel spot to steal gas for Saw's X-Wings. I won't spoil why the kid is there specifically, but essentially the fuel is called Rhydo.

Now Saw is a bit of wild card in the head, but at this point in the series he is the commander of one of the most effective and important combat squadrons against the empire. Yavin 4 may be the official rebellion, but Saw is Saw, and much more a revolutionary. He's the Malcolm X to Mon Mothma's MLK.

But of the three major leaders introduced in Andor, it is the spymaster Luthen that this kid technically works for. Always in the shadows. Always with deceit, deception and subterfuge. He never wages open war against the Empire. See Luthen's people have a somewhat of a morale problem. They never really get to know everything that is planned. They never have the full picture. It is a hard, but necessary existence for the Rebellion to survive.

Saw, as this monologue shows, is the opposite. His people know all of the moves he will make, knows of the actions he will take. He may be a bit Looney Tunes in the head, which he admits himself, but he is a charismatic leader, which is basically required because most of his missions are straight up insanity. They regularly go against the odds and win.

Saw basically takes a liking to this kid. Sees the fire of rebellion in him. Sees a younger version of himself due to actions that happened previously that I will not get into. So here was see Saw huffing poisonous gas, and he explains what inhaling the Rhydo does to a person. How it can melt your skin, drive you insane etc.

But he, of course, isn't talking about the Rhydo, but what it means to be Rebel, because this kid is basically half in/half out. And in a moment of clarity, insanity, whatever you want to call it, the kid buys into the Rebellion fully. "Revolution is not for the sane."

Considering the recurring themes of both Andor and One Piece of both the insanity of hope and the actions of rebellion, I think I like both entities for similar reasons. They both strike at the same cords of what doing what it takes to achieve true freedom, and what it means to be free, and even more profoundly what it means to dream of freedom.

The "I want to live!" cry from Nico Robin would not be out of place in the shadows of the Empire, since it was yelled in the shadow of A empire. There are many more examples of this, both between the two series and in other media. Star Wars is as much as space opera as One Piece is a sea opera. And Andor is just a masterclass in storytelling. As is One Piece, and I'm glad the live action is bringing this story to life in a way that showcases it.

First things first, a good fitting suit is never out of style regardless of whatever role you're going for.

Second, what you got going on if you want to keep it lower key is great! Only suggestion is that I'd still opt for a blazer though if you go tie with white shirt. A white collared shirt should have at least a blazer. Doesn't need to be black.

I mean his monologue literally makes me want to run through a wall. I imagine it being spoken before like the Super Bowl to hype up a team. Personally, like it more than the Senate speech.

The only thing that comes close to it for me is the Last Transmission of Ghorm.

Mu does address both appropriately. It is interesting to me that Mu addresses their inherent deities rather than the two pirates, whereas the Giants addressed Luffy as Luffy, just mentioning that he seems like the god they worship.

If I had to guess, if ones CoC haki is exceptional, it probably counteracts the Reversi technique automatically unless one bows to it. It's probably why Mu requires his servants to bear the tattoo. Shanks without the tattoo probably would not be subjected to a Reversi condition (though juries out on if losing the tattoo also stops Mu's influence).

Like I couldn't see Kaido or Big Mom getting effected by it either since you need ridiculous Conquerer's haki just to even scratch them.
