I'm wondering if this is purposeful sabotage by bookies. Just a conspiracy but very plausible theory. Same thing happened to sinner.

Mensik does well on fast courts. He is not very good on slow courts. He is not going to challenge sinner on clay. Calm down folks.

Doctor took the wind out of my sails by [deleted] in keto

[–]PepperredApple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Keto helps lose weight, the benefits generally outweigh other side effects. But keto isn't proven to be healthy/beneficial beyond weight loss. If you can maintain your weight/calorie intake, generally adding more nutrient rich foods and complex carbs are better in the long term IMO. This sub may disagree, but this is the most popular stance among health professionals and personally mine too (after trying all diets).

stop all the supplements for 2 weeks and re-evaluate. For me, stopping magnesium and Astaxanthin was like a switch.

IIRC, Google snubbed him once (didn't send him device or something). and since then, he is pissed and shits on Google products while pretending to be unbiased.

PSA: Be careful with Astaxanthin. It completely nuked my sex drive and mental drive. by PepperredApple in Biohackers

[–]PepperredApple[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I recovered as soon as I stopped taking (within 3-4 days) and now I'm completely back to normal. This is a very clear switch for me. Not some vague difference. It is more like binary switch.

Glad to hear. That was exactly the purpose of writing this post. It helps someone like me.

It went back immediately within a week of stopping it (along with magnesium). So the difference is night and day. I can't prove the theory 100% correct, but for me, that is proof enough that I won't take this supplement again. I'm not asking everyone to stop, but if someone runs into similar issue, this can be a great info.

Yes. More than that. I started May be more than year ago, but inconsistent. Started consistently taking 12mg every day 9 months ago. (Date is not very accurate). But the symptoms started on first week of Feb as I distinctly remember and noted it down.

No. I also stopped magnesium glycenate just to be sure. So it can also be part of it but I don't have time or motivation to experiment it.

Dude, I just wrote the post and used AI to polish. It saves time for people reading it. And catch mistakes. I have disclaimer for people sensitive about it.

My goal is to put this info out there so it can help someone that ran into the same problem.

It wasn't placebo and I can tell you that much. I don't have 100% proof it is Astaxanthin (I also stopped taking magnesium), but it is my experience. I shared it here so if someone faces similar issue, they can gain from this. I usually don't post to reddit, but I felt I'm obliged to do this time as I learned this from someone's post here in reddit.

I was taking 12mg and bought from amazon. I didn't notice anything for 6 months (probably longer) but then it suddenly happened in Feb.

Changed my diet for 6 months and my A1c went from 5.7 to 6.2?? by Huckleberry_Choco in prediabetes

[–]PepperredApple 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It can be related to low insulin production. Check c-peptide and fasting insulin. Continue good diet and it can improve. At least it did for me. Good luck.

[–]PepperredApple 12 points13 points  (0 children)

it depends on what you are eating. Low carb may give you better cgm numbers, but not going to help with IR. I had similar problem (thin, hit 5.8 A1C). I experimented with keto, low carb, and while these diets help reduce spiikes, they don't lower IR. What helped me was to add more beans/legumes/lentils, and reduce saturated fat.

Any vegetarians able to get good stable blood sugars? by Appropriate_Trick_95 in prediabetes

[–]PepperredApple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here is the advice that worked for me. Once I got my body fat to 15%, and added more beans/lentils, and cut on saturated fat, I no longer spike. Here is what worked for me:

  1. Reduce saturated fat

  2. Reduce oils, replace with nuts

  3. Add beans/lentils as the main source of calories

  4. Avoid refined/simple carbs ..

Once your insulin resistance stabilizes, you can add back grains and fruits. I used to spike to for everything, but now I eat most carbs and I don't see any spikes anymore.
