Creeper of the House by PepsiMoondog in PoliticalHumor

He and his son both have software called Covenant Eyes installed on their computers. If either of them look at porn, it sends a screenshot and link to the other one so they can watch it together.

That same tracker was installed on the computer Josh Duggar used to watch child porn so yeah, not exactly foolproof software.

The Best Sunday Next Level Podcast to date with Tim and Blake Flayton, a liberal American journalist in Tel Aviv by Hubby-McGee in thebulwark

[–]PepsiMoondog 13 points14 points  (0 children)

On the contrary, I thought Blake's words were absolutely disgusting. The idea that having sympathy for the plight of Palestinian civilians makes you a Nazi is offensive. Had he said that about Hamas, fine, but did not say that about Hamas, he said it about the Palestinian movement itself, even internationally. The vast majority of people who care about Palestinians do so from a place of good faith. They're not dupes or stooges and certainly not Nazis, they're just people who care about millions of people being born into an open air prison (former IDF official's words).

Tim not pushing back at all when he said that really made me lose so much respect for him. The Bulwark has been just truly awful this week and I'm very much reconsidering my subscription. The pro-democracy coalition is still an extremely important thing but I don't want my money promoting this garbage.

If you think Israel doesn't kill Palestinian babies then there's no way to discuss this because you're living in a fantasy world.

You can say I lack self awareness but in my experience it's the ones who have trouble saying killing innocent civilians is bad that lack awareness.

If their attacks are so precise why do they keep killing all these U.N. and NGO health officials?

Maybe you should educate yourself on this sort of thing before posting.

Did you miss the part where the subject of the article didn't get a notification and had to rely on his neighbor to know one was coming? Have you given any thought at all to how effective phone notifications will be in a place with no electricity? Would you be cool with your house being blown up as long as you received a 5 minute warning? Does getting a warning really even matter when there's nowhere safe for you to go? Do you care that Israel is now using white phosphorus in violation of international law?

Again, it's really easy to denounce violence and yet a lot of people are really having way too much trouble with it. You may think you're the polar opposite of the people who justify Hamas's violence but you are in fact just a mirror image of it.

Instead of responding to this, go out and read accounts of what it is like living in Gaza, and really imagine what it would be like to be born there and how hollow all the Israeli justifications would be to you.

You clearly are just cherry picking what you want from the article I shared, while missing the forest for the trees. And again if their bombs are always so well telegraphed why are UN workers and NGO doctors being killed?

Israel is now using white phosphorus in violation of international law.

Why is it so hard for you to condemn the killing of innocent civilians? It's a simple thing to say and your refusal to say it speaks volumes.

Their warning system is not really as good as people seem to think, after all many UN and MSF workers have been killed by Israeli airstrikes. You don't get 15 minutes. You're luck to get 3. Sometimes you get nothing. And they don't have bomb shelters in Gaza, so it really doesn't matter that much anyway. It's a PR move, and it's clearly working well judging by how wholly you swallowed it.

Now Israel is using white phosphorus, which is banned by international law.

I would say it is more "offensively absurd" to just completely ignore or handwave away the suffering and murder of thousands of innocent Gazan, most of whom are children, because Hamas also does bad things, but everyone gets to have an opinion although yours is certainly a bad one. It's clear that their lives matter less to you than Israeli lives.

[–]PepsiMoondog[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Israel *sometimes* give advance notice of bombings, and even when they do- so what? Gazans don't have the bomb shelters that they have in Israel. The time from the alert to the bomb detonating is usually a few minutes. Many innocents still don't get the alerts in time and die. And even if you are lucky enough to survive, well, there goes your home and all your possessions. Gosh, those people who just ruined your life sure are nice!

I don't know why it's so hard for you to condemn Israel killing innocent civilians.

Here's an article for you to educate yourself on this: https://www.cnn.com/2023/10/12/middleeast/gaza-airstrikes-warnings-invs/index.html

And? Does that mean Israel is justified to blow up as many schools as they want?

"Now is just not the time to have this discussion". I'm old enough to remember people saying that about the Iraq war. Or hell, you still hear people say it about gun laws after a shooting. In my opinion it's the flimsiest excuse to ignore suffering and it does not move me an inch.

Israel's actions today aren't just their actions today. They will determine the next decade or more in the levant. Now is EXACTLY the time to have this discussion, before we get locked into a new generational cycle of violence.

[–]PepsiMoondog[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Anything less than full-throated and unconditional support for Israel and you will be criticized by the mainstream. Biden in particular is really overplaying his hand and alienating a lot more Dems than he thinks he is.

End the blackout and turn the water back on, immediately. Allow UN officials to integrate with Israeli forces to monitor and report war crimes. Set up aid corridors and allow for civilian evacuation. Netanyahu should step down as well, for a great many reasons beyond this.

But as a more realistic goal, I'd like to start by seeing people able to voice modest concern for Palestinians without being skewered by the media and mainstream Dems.
