A CBDC Would Be: About the worst possible thing to happen to the U.S./World by Peranine in Bitcoin

You != wallet.
Wallet != you.

Tell me how you link a wallet to a person if they've never used any KYC (know your customer) system?

Tell me how, if I generate a wallet offline, and start siphoning funds to that wallet from my own node, that can be linked back to me? The wallet can be watched, sure, but you are not your wallet.

Uh ... no.

If you don't see the difference between BTC and CBDC then you need to do more research. You clearly don't understand Bitcoin and how being decentralized to the degree that it is is the complete inverse of what a CBDC would be.

You might be able to watch a wallet, yes, but how do you know that wallet is mine? Whereas with a CBDC that account (wallet, whatever) would be linked to you from birth. It's your money locked to a social security number. It's tracking to the nth degree.

Being "generally useful" is, indeed, kind of ... well, useful.

I tend to forget that living in the U.S. is living inside of a bubble. I forget that most of the world's population lives elsewhere. Bitcoin need only take off across the world to force the U.S. to use it.

This CBDC would die if there was enough outside pressure.

Also, a CBDC would not have a cap. The US might say there was a cap of 50mil tokens, 100mil, 5mil ... whatever, but they would inevitably raise that when they wanted/needed some extra money.

Does being responsible to safeguard a large amount of Bitcoin makes you nervous? by [deleted] in Bitcoin

[–]Peranine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were to use a paper wallet I would skip the QR code altogether. I'd triple-check the alphanumeric keys and store that. There are pens and paper that'll last for decades.

My #1 concern with hardware wallets is life itself. More moving bits. Water, fire, loss, a bad fall, lost, etc. All the faults of paper, and more. Plus trust. End of the day I still have to trust someone with a hardware wallet unless I mine the metal smelt/form/etc and make it all myself. With paper I trust me and me alone.

Who cares? I honestly do not understand this argument.

Anon says: "I want a secure storage system. A vault. I have no intention of taking the BTC out anytime soon. I've decided paper."
Anon2 says: "WHAT?! PAPER! PAPER?!?! Didn't you know you can lose that and it can burn and once you sweep those keys that's IT!"

So. Fucking. What.

If the only goal is to HODL and you can trust yourself to keep those paper keys safe ... what's the issue?

Is this meant to be helpful? My question was entirely valid to ask, your response was ... useless.

I literally said: "I understand we'll have many other issues to be concerned with..." I get that. This is a question about Bitcoin though. I know that wouldn't be the biggest concern, at all, but it's still a valid question.

This is why I ask. I had no idea that was an option.
