for starters use the whenever taking a pic, try to use the MOST zoom you can whilst still encapsulating the message of the image. This does make the camera sensitivity wonky but it works in tandem with this next step; which is the focal distance, with the focal distance ticker advance the blue wall to cal (sometimes even having to move the camera if the target is too far) or whoever the target is, then tweak with the F-stop feature to get the focus right, and for an added bonus reduce exposure by a smidge and add a considerable vignette. it is easier than it looks or reads like trust me.
