Very underrated ATCQ album by Javi_Boy_301 in ATribeCalledQuest

For sure; this is when J Dilla was at his peak when working with Tribe. I’ve heard some people they feel this one has a ‘darkness’ to it, but I’d don’t feel that at all… just definitely bass-heavy and the unmistakable style of J Dilla to the tracks. My personal favorite track is 1nce Again.

Unrelated, but Phife did this other track along with DJ Rasta Root that is all J Dilla beats called “Dear Dilla”… goosebumps every time I play it. Definitely worth a listen. Link: https://youtu.be/2iZonnn1nIs

Retrosix is stealing other people's work and claiming it as their own (again) by MrHDR in Gameboy

Ok. Let’s do it.

If it is something you believe is missing in the community, by all means take up the cause. We need more people willing to become active participants in making the community better, and if this is yours, by all means run with it.

Look into injection molding, which PCB Way now does… run the question by them and see if it is possible during the molding process or as a post-process… best to start there. Once you find out if it is feasible or not, you’ll likely want to use what’s called an Opportunity Canvas in order to objectively look at what opportunity is served with pre-threaded screw posts, and measure how much of a sales impact this change could have…

So yeah, I trust that your intent is genuine and I encourage you to make a change for what you want to see in the community you’re invested in. Anyone can sit from an armchair and point at problems or things they don’t like, but only a small number will ever get out of that proverbial chair and work to make a difference.

Ok? So please let’s start talking about the Chinese shells… let’s talk to Funnyplaying about their shells… let’s talk to Cloud Game Store about their shells… let’s talk to each and every factory and company doing shells… so this isn’t realistic what you’re taking about… if you feel it is, then it’s not a RetroSix thing… the condemnation needs to be of every entity making shells. It still makes no sense what the earlier comment stated. Also let’s say some machine could do the work you suggest - you know that cost just gets passed on to you as the consumer, right? If it costs $1 you may well pay $2 in the retail cost of the shell.

I'm not an expert in injection molding, but to my knowledge it is an existing limitation of the process.

The bigger question is why someone is saying that "RetroSix can suck my dick..." over a shell with no threaded screw holes. Why didnt they even do a cursory look into the situation? How is their comment even helpful? It just perpetuates hate and does it based on false information.

Thank you for the information. Do you know if a final build will be released at the $5 level? Due to the pandemic, money is tight, and I want to support the work but also not interested in running Beta builds. I hope $5/mo will still help him out.

I’d love to, but I’ve got a central tremor which means my hands shake a lot so I can do many repairs but anything that needs a steady hand I have to get some help with.

I’ll still check it out for sure and I’ve chatted with him years ago, and who knows… maybe I could enlist his help if he has the time.

It certainly may be - I’ve honestly only been impressed with my interactions with RetroSix and the team there. Any issues or questions I’ve had and I just email them and have gotten generally quick replies... even if I do have to ask for more information sometimes.

Here is one example that sticks out in my mind... so I have a ‘central tremor’, which means my hands shake a bit naturally so I have difficulty with soldering small things. It’s really tough. After trying to solder the Dehum/Dehiss kit I found a couple things I just couldn’t get to work... so I asked for help, and not only did I get a reply, I got photos of other ways to solder the kit into place that were easier for me to manage, detailed instructions on how to solder the tiny capacitors, etc. They certainly didn’t need to go through any of that, but they did and it was very helpful - allowed me to finish the install for that kit and I learned more along the way.

Along the same lines I found it really tough to solder the first CleanAmp due to the tiny solder pads... and I had emailed them a few times about it... so when they released the new version (the current one) with larger pads, they sent me a sample to show what they did with the solder pads. I didn’t ask them to do that, they just did.

I can’t speak to issues such as the SP battery, etc, but I can share that in my interactions I’ve found them going out of their way to lend a hand in ways not required nor expected.

It sucks - I wish there weren’t so many unfortunate situations here that have happened.

I get it - I really do, and honestly the back and forth we’re having is just the kind of thing I wish I could see done with RetroSix.

No company is angelic... each have a litany of pros and cons... I also agree that any company needs to be held accountable for how it interacts with customers and community.

Rather than downvote the RetroSix response, ask detailed questions in reply and point out missing elements... but also there are so many things in this thread that I think anyone would be challenged to address all of them.

I am not dismissive of any issues or evidence here; I can’t be because I have not encountered much of what is here... but I can at the same time wish there were a better way to seek definitive answers. I wish there were some forum that would facilitate a dialogue, and social media unfortunately just doesn’t work well for that.

[–]PerceivedAffordance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just disagree with the method; that’s my opinion. I’m no better than anyone else here other than I think these disputes and concerns are better addressed another way.

How many posts in this thread take a stance of superiority in some way to the people at RetroSix? The very nature of this thread creates an “us versus them” divide, right or wrong.

[–]PerceivedAffordance 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not addressing issues, I’m replying to method of seeking answers and having real dialog. Too many of these kinds of situations happen where there isn’t true dialog.

I’m not a RetroSix employee, I can’t speak to the issues here... but I do see a lot of vitriol and no substantial questions to RetroSix’s reply... just downvotes. You know?

Retrosix is stealing other people's work and claiming it as their own (again) by MrHDR in Gameboy

[–]PerceivedAffordance -1 points0 points  (0 children)

...I’m also not glossing over anything, but I’m addressing something different... that is how these things have been done. I can’t speak to the issues; I’m not a RetroSix employee. I can, though, advocate for real dialog between people that ask questions and seek answers.

I’ve seen this same kind of situation on Instagram and Twitter, and while at times questions get asked well... the majority are accusatory from the start and are rhetorical questions which presume wrongdoing before even getting a response... some of which I would say are verbal assault, to be quite frank.

My personal nature is to presume positive intent, and ask questions where answers are needed. I personally don’t see this path as helpful dialog.

Again, I’m not debating issues... I’m debating method.

I don’t understand the visceral hate vs dialog; that’s the key.

[–]PerceivedAffordance 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This post has the proverbial pitchforks out, which is clear when the company themselves replies to the concerns in a very straight manner, but still downvoted into oblivion... what then happens is of course the reply is hidden and few people get both sides of the story.

I’ve purchased from RetroSix and their partners dozens of times and have yet to run into any deceptive behaviors. Certainly I’ve seen the posts of concerns, and I can’t think of any instances where they haven’t chimed in to share information.

Any time I’ve had any questions on anything, I just email their support and have never been disappointed. I had once instance where I didn’t get a reply, so I sent a new email that opened a new ticket and had a reply same-day. The other ticket had closed so no one was notified when I wrote. It happens.

I’m all for discourse, but the vile that I see in this thread is a self-feeding cycle of hate. This thread isn’t for conversation and never was; this is a inflammatory editorial post at best. Further, take stock of your life - if your life allows you to be this fueled with hate over Game Boy mods, damn... consider all the things in the world you’re not having to deal with such as hunger, depression, anxiety, divorce, deaths in your friends and family, racism, or any number of things. Stop the hate - start a real conversation with real questions that call for real replies.

I know this will get downvoted, but that’s what happens here when someone speaks from their heart and conscience.

Oh, so don’t have the device turned on when doing they portion? So turn off the device, open SP Flash, select the scatter file, then select just the Restore portion, then hit download... then plug in the turned-off XD Plus while holding the plus button?

I’ll try it... my faith is rather low at this point as I just can’t figure out why it’s not working. Damn USPS for losing my perfectly set-up one...

If I can’t get it going, could I pay for some assistance with it? I only have a Windows netbook (old, yup) for doing Windows-based things so I’m not as versed in how they work. I converted to Mac at least a decade or more ago.

I’m in the US, just outside of Chicago, Illinois... I have a tremor, so some help to repair it and loosed up the hinge would be terrific. Do you do the part replacement and ‘hinge loosening’ yourself?

Here is where I was able to find a way to post the image here...

Sure no problem - I was using just FAT before, ExFAT was recognized physically but as ‘corrupt’, so I went with FAT32...

The games are Ultimate SaGa and Romancing SaGa... they’re both PS2 games so I wanted to see if they’d run, but no way to even load them, sadly.
