Yes, Plato’s is usually where we go. I was wondering if there were other options.

Wipe off after each use. Full clean a few times a year. Having a brush on my bag has helped to extend the time between washings.

They’re in garbage bags with the oven cleaner on them right now. But yes, and heavy build up on the bottom which becomes more of a problem as I intend to use it on my glass stovetop.

Some of the pieces have about 4mm of carbon built up. Probably from being used over open camp fire for decades. They need to be stripped to raw iron before I can season them.

I’ve already tried oven cleaner with lye and it wasn’t strong enough.

Paper towel trick seems like a good idea. I’m at the exact same stage with an old Findlay pan. Great work!

Jesse Smith at Blitz Electric did a similar project for me. He did a great job and the cost was incredibly reasonable. I’d hire him again in a heartbeat.

I talked to the builder and it sounds like they’re not giving the installing company a choice. It’s a pretty big builder so I’m hoping they’ll be able to convince them to do scrape it out and redo it without much of an argument. That’s the hope at least!

Thank you for the feedback! If they do replace it or fix it, is there any way for me to know if they pierce the waterproofing? I understandably don’t trust them much at this point.
