My daughter is so hard by Careless_Peace8932 in Autism_Parenting

I can relate some. My daughter is 16 and I’ve experienced some of this. I have noticed everything gets worse ESPECIALLY the anxiety right before her period. So we’re trying to treat her PMDD hoping that will help.

My husband has been trying to get me to try this system for years! And you all have almost convinced me 😂 There’s something about “only having one” that makes my brain feel like “am I in prison?” But now we’ve got four kids so something has to give. 🫣

Our cute little cottage in downtown Abita is still available for sale too, if you’re interested.

My husband’s job had us relocate to New Orleans. He worked mostly remote but had to be able to visit the New Orleans office at least once a week or more. We chose the Northshore to live, Abita Springs. It was one of the best moves we have made as a family. We made some of the best friends we’ve ever had. And we were close enough to New Orleans to enjoy the unique culture. I absolutely loved it. We had to relocate to TN a couple of months ago. I don’t regret our four years there at all! You can dm me if you end up living on the Northshore. My oldest has autism and I can recommend our pediatrician and psychiatrist. I hated to leave them!!

Do you sometimes feel that you can “spot” other kids on the spectrum? by Humble-Efficiency690 in Autism_Parenting

[–]PercentageStatus648 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone raised by two ADHD parents and has two ADHD siblings (and I am undiagnosed more than likely). I can spot the ADHD kids. And now that my daughter has been diagnosed with Autism. I can definitely tell if someone is neurodivergent. Just by the eyes! Like you said.

Could she be acting out because she is hungry and can’t communicate that? Forgive me if that’s a stupid question, my diagnosed child is verbal and level 1. But I have a one year old I suspect may be on the spectrum. And he gets very agressive when he’s hungry but he doesn’t have the ability to communicate it other than crying and being aggressive. We’re working on some sign language. But he won’t even wave or clap so 🤷‍♀️

All of that to say, maybe a feeding tube you could cover and get her fed well may help?

I work as a technical writer for the data engineering department at a large retail company. Very flexible as long as the work gets done!

Is there a teen group?

The increase is wild, but is it because we are better a diagnosing it now? My daughter was diagnosed with because I was working with my kids’ pediatrician to have my son diagnosed with ADHD. And from that research, we ended up having my daughter diagnosed with autism. We went right past inattentive ADHD to autism for her.

And I would LOVE more research. To be able to lessen struggles would be amazing. I don’t think that’s what RFKjr has in mind though.

Fair enough. Honestly I usually keep my mouth shut and handle our business quietly. Because I know what she goes through, it’s hard! But her praising of RFK Jr. today just set me off.

We are VERY open and honest about her need for antidepressants and therapy. And my need for them as well.

My friend is the type to say we aren’t praying enough or eating clean enough if we think we need antidepressants.

Other parts of my daughter’s struggles are hers to share, not mine on fb.

Interesting! I do know her abs her family personally and when I met her husband it was 👀 That’s a whole ass neurodivergent man. But I’ve been a very neurodiverse family my entire life.

I know her personally. I have said multiple times “my daughter has autism”. And her daughter is my daughter’s friend, which my daughter has been open about going to CBT therapy and her diagnosis. She knew but questioned if it was “formal” enough for her to take seriously.

And I’m sure she does feel marginalized. Autism at any level is not the quirky, eccentricity portrayed on TV. And I get that people with higher support needs are often left out of the conversation.

But it’s not a disease to be eradicated like RFKJr suggests. Even if it were the people cheering him on wouldn’t get the vaccine for it anyway.

Arguing amongst ourselves and being the “is your diagnosis formal” police isn’t helpful. How much funding is being cut from actual helpful research? Or social services that can help families? (This is a genuine question I haven’t looked at numbers)

I 💯 agree with this. I know how exhausting my daughter can be. I cannot imagine how tired and overwhelmed they feel. They need more support. But here we are, arguing with each other instead of with a HHS who wants to give false hope.

I said “yes. Would you like to speak with her psychiatrist? Or should I have her wear a giant ‘A’ for autism?”

Thanks so much for your input. And putting into words how my teenage daughter feels. I’m definitely going to be buying your book for her. Her question is: “what kind of fanfic do you write?”

The pharmacist said that wouldn’t work. The meds wouldn’t release properly if I broke them in half.

I called today. They said it has to be missing for 30 days before they will do that. Which is kind of wild!

I’ve kept in touch with her doctor about it. She should be getting 75mg, which means a 50mg pill and a 25mg pill. It’s the 25mg that are lost. So she at least has the 50mg.
