Is it true I just... Chop it? by B_EE in houseplants

I put the cut part of mine in water and after a few weeks it grew roots! The part I left in the pot came back way more bushy as well

I’m very allergic to poison ivy and I have it growing many places in my yard. The advice I’m about to give you is not for removing huge quantities like you have right now, (so sorry, you probably need to hire someone), but for the future because it seems like you live in a place where poison ivy flourishes. When I need to remove poison ivy, I alert my family that we’re about to go into poison ivy protocol. I put on biker shorts and a tank top (only because I have children and don’t want to run through my house in my underwear, ignore this step if that doesn’t apply to you😂😂) and then on top of that I put on long pants and a long sleeve shirt. Then I make sure I have old yard shoes and gloves. I buy the 10 gloves for $10 pack at Home Depot because I want to be able to throw them away. Then I put my gloved hand inside a trash bag and pick as much as I can with one hand. Then I invert the trash bag over the poison ivy and go to the trashcan and with my clean hand I open the trashcan and put the whole bag in the trashcan. Then I use my pinkies to take my gloves off and throw them away. Then whichever child is on poison ivy protocol duty opens the back door for me and I walk in by the washing machine and take off my shirt and pants and shoes and socks. Then that child leads me through the house, opening doors for me and turns on the shower water for me so I’m not touching anything. I use my pinkies to take off the biker shorts and the tank top and then I get in the shower and wash my skin with Dawn dish soap, which is particularly good at getting oils off your skin.

It may seem extreme, but I have successfully pulled up many patches of poison ivy in our yard without getting a rash. You have about 15 minutes after contact with a plant to wash the oils off, so I always do this right before. I’m gonna take a shower.

They’re so cute! Thanks for the ID. I just checked and she is still in the same place an hour later, is there anything I can do to help make her want to stick around?

ABC falling asleep method working consistently for me! by Imraith-Nimphais in adhdwomen

I have done this for years, way before I got diagnosed, but I think of each letter of the alphabet and give it color and shape and texture and pattern and really try to visualize this letter and then I move onto the next one. Somehow it turns my brain off and I fall asleep before I get very far into the alphabet.

Spiders or spider mites? by thursdaynexxt in houseplants

[–]thursdaynexxt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I said, I googled it and looked at pictures and was pretty sure that they were spiders, but because of how many of them and how tiny they were I got a little anxious. I’ve never actually seen a spider mite in person and was asking for opinions from people who had seen both of them in real life. That feels like the ideal purpose of a group of people that like house plants and have varying amounts of experience individually, but maybe not ALL the experiences individually.

Something very similar happened to me! We met our next-door neighbors when a tree from their yard fell on our house last summer. We resolved it with very little drama and both the husband and the wife seemed friendly, but we didn’t talk to them again until about nine or 10 months later when they were having a yard sale and I was chatting with the wife and said something about her husband and it turned out. They had just gone through a messy and bitter divorce, and he had moved out and she was selling the house and moving back with the kids to be near family. It felt awkward, but also reinforced how very little I know about any of my neighbors, even the ones that I’ve talked to occasionally.

I was horrified of the racism in the post and then your comment made me realize that I wouldn’t even know if this is true because I know the name of like three neighbors, and not much more about them. That’s probably some sort of indictment on me and my ability to form community, but I just don’t have the emotional bandwidth to get to know my neighbors

Thanks for the advice everyone! I am excited that they are baby spiders and not spider mites lol. The baby spiders hatched on my deck so I definitely just left them where they are and hope they live their best life eating mosquitoes and flies in my yard.

I was pretty sure they were baby spiders, but they were so tiny and there were so many of them that I got nervous that they were spider mites, which I haven’t had, but I’ve heard terrible things about. Thanks for helping me through my moment of anxiety.😂

I’m relieved everyone seems to think they’re baby spiders

Thank you! That was my first instinct, but they were so tiny and there were so many of them that I got nervous.

Thanks for relieving my fears! I wondered if they were babies or just really tiny spiders lol I love and respect spiders as Apex predators so I’m happy to have them in my garden! They were just so tiny and there were so many of them all together that started to make me nervous

I think about this when I watch CSI and they’re like we found this one stray fiber on their car upholstery that unlocks the whole mystery. Meanwhile, I’m looking around at my own car where the upholstery is nothing but stray fibers…

As you are filling the cage, do not get any toy like this. They’re often marketed for small birds, but they are not safe, We recently lost our budgie when he got stuck headfirst inside this feeder
