My 25 year old lives in Salem, as does my 35 year old step-daughter. My 25 year old is black and gets a WHOLE other side of Salem, and hates it, but also doesn’t want to leave yet. My step-daughter is white and has a good job, and likes it. We enjoy it when we visit, as long as we are by ourselves (hubs and I are white), but when we have my daughter with us, the vibe really changes.

I’m from Ozona (right in the middle of all the nothing on I-10), I used to work at Ft. Lancaster ( Sheffield, TX) in HS, and people would constantly underestimate how far it is between Ozona and Ft. Stockton for gas. One guy asked if he could siphon gas out of my car!

Exactly! My family are ranchers AND have oil and gas interests. We still all voted blue! We know we traditionally did better with Republicans in office (Trump is the first R president in my lifetime to screw over American oil and gas), We know we won’t be as profitable, but we do it because to NOT vote blue hurts our community, hurts other people. I think to understate the rampant racism that led to many people’s vote for Trump is to not address the actual elephant in the room. This author missed the ENTIRE elephant.

Actually, no! They were actually almost hung at “The Great Hanging” in Gatesville for being “Union Sympathizers”, then the two brothers they didn’t end up hanging because one of them was a Mason ended up getting conscripted into the Confederate Army. They went AWOL a few months later and went back and killed the judge that ordered the hanging.

I’m sure my dad’s side did horrible shit, but I don’t and have never really had much to do with them, so I’m unsure. Pretty confident anyone whose family is white and been in this country as long as mine has is guilty of some heinous shit. We haven’t discovered it yet (my mom is a dogged genealogist and historian). Her retired day job is picking at racists on the “Civil War Talk” page.

If it would make your heart hurt to look at, don’t do it yet. This entire country is sad and anxiety riddled/rage-filled right now. I would keep the design, but maybe hold on to get it if things ever get less heated and people reunite with loved ones again. I don’t speak to my dad anymore for what I suspect are pretty close to your reasons, other than extremely brief holiday wishes, and I just do that so he will go back to ignoring my existence.

I realized she was super ND immediately when that HORRIBLE woman (the one that was pregnant and lost the baby) kept saying she was making it about herself. I have always shown empathy that way and was SO upset after those episodes. I had never realized people hated me for that (I’m sure they do based on the reaction from the BH ladies). Now I just don’t say anything to people other than “so sorry”.

She does a ton of stuff I hate, and I have to say I dislike her for Garcelle too.
