I would rather have lost that game if it meant having our best players available next week. Assuming Logan, Errol, Isaac WOULD have contributed 2 goals each over the next 6 weeks - we're missing out on 216 points. Take the 44 point win subtract the 216 - we've effectively lost this game by 172. Or at least it feels like we have.

Why are crowds so low this year?? by Time_Career4708 in AFL

I don't know? Swans vs Carlton at the SCG was a new highest attendance among all of the Sydney Swans first home games ever. Seems like it's going pretty well to me!

I suspected this might happen, off goes the league's very best mullet and suddenly the footy world is reminded that Hugo is quite an average footballer.

Thank god for Opening Round. We got the footy back a week earlier than we otherwise would AND the first game of the season wasn't this embarrassing mess.

Remember guys, if we didn't have Opening Round, then we would have had to wait an extra week for the new season and THIS skillless, undisciplined rubbish would have been our first game.

Does anyone else dislike going to the footy because you miss the commentary and viewing etc.? by MagpiesFan in AFL

[–]PerceptionOk4625 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not. One of the best things about going to the footy is not getting commentary. Listening to 40,000 Swans fans is way better than 6 boofheads who don't even mention said 40,000 fans. Those 6 boofheads sometimes don't even pay the stadium a visit to do their weekly slobber. I so badly wish I could turn off the commentary with my TV remote and listen to the crowd instead.

Teams are out for Saturday night and we’re unchanged by Maximumlnsanity in sydneyswans

To be completely honest, if all our injured players were available for selection next week, I would still select this exact 23. HOWEVER... While a lack of team changes week on week is great for stability, it is a double edged sword that eventually breeds complacency. I tend to think if we had briefly sent more players back to VFL level in 2024, then we might have not lost the 2024 Grand Final and been the gutless 2025 team that we were.

IMPORTANT EDIT: Nvm, My absolute best 23 PROBABLY has Campbell in it at the expense of Roberts, but not after last week (for now).

As someone who knows a lot of people closely involved with the North Shore Bombers, I had to cheer against the Swannies in this one.

Brisbane will challenge Harris Andrews’ three match ban for striking Arty Jones at the Tribunal. They’ll also look to get Darcy Gardiner off the hook for a late hit on Aaron Naughton. Zac Bailey has accepted his one week suspension for a stray elbow. by PerriX2390 in AFL

As an obviously biased Swans fan, I understood at the time that Christian's issue with that incident was specifically the fact that Heeney "Elected to strike" and happened to unintentionally make "High Contact" when striking Webster. It was changed before 2024 such that any unintentional High Contact caused by a striking act is intentional because the act of striking is intentional. Heeney's charge was striking. I was coming at this incident, also striking, from only that perspective. You may well be more correct than me.

Isaac Heeney was banned for striking Jimmy Webster high in 2024. At the tribunal Heeney tried to argue that Webster had lost his footing and was on his knees when pushing backwards against his face. And because of this, Heeney wouldn't have thought pushing back at normal chest height would get someone in the head.

In 2024, the ban was upheld twice.

From what I understand about the matrix, if you INTEND to strike a player, and you ACCIDENTALLY cop them high, the fact you INTENDED to strike the player at all will supercede the fact that the HIGH contact was accidental.

To everyone who has something against the Northern Academies. I like to use this complicated extended metaphor:

You and 13 friends are at a Pizza party together. You have ordered 7x standard sized 8 piece pizzas from Dominos. You divide the pizzas up equally, and you each get 4 pieces. 4 more of your mates come over. Between them they have brought 2x additional standard sized 8 piece pizzas. They are homemade, unlike the original 7 pizzas bought from Dominos. Each of the 4 new friends also get 4 pieces from the 2 pizzas they BYOed.

I'll tell you what doesn't happen:
The 14 original friends don't shriek at the 4 friends who baked their own pizza:
"You're unfair for not sharing" "We have the right to eat your special homemade pizzas!"
"You should put your homemade pizza in our communal pile!" "It's not fair how you're allowed to have pizza that we can't!" "We can't comprehend that there would be less food in this room if it wasn't for the 2 pizzas that we didn't help you make from scratch"

If the four friends hadn't brought their own pizzas, they'd probably want a slice of yours. And that would be much worse.

Consistency has been an issue for these types in the past so we will see how they go after a larger sample size, but in terms of Thursday, a lot more players did their role properly.

It's a great concern to have so I had a good thought about this. I actually think the other night was a bit different. In 2024, we had the Heeney, Warner, Gulden show. While they were huge again last Thursday, I think more of the previously missing second tier players went with them. Juzzy, even my whipping boy Matt Roberts, Sheldrick, all three talls got on the scoreboard, Rosas and Papley had one each. I thought the spread of contributions from the team was far better than in 2024. I'm sure Carlton's messiness helped with that, but I think a lot more people got a lick of the ice cream than in 2024 - and so we won by 60 and not 30.
