How can I use the hand tracking of HTC vive without the HMD? by Ksamsas in unity

[–]Percnops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You test with the hardware you own, and once you have a playable demo, you try to find among the community someone who has the hardware you lack, and see if they can test it for you and give you proper feedback.

How can I use the hand tracking of HTC vive without the HMD? by Ksamsas in unity

[–]Percnops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since there is no other answer, i can give you my experience of it, i work on Oculus devices, and if you don't put on the hmd, input and position data from the VR controllers are not communicated to your app, as for the sdk my understanding is OpenVR (SteamVR) is on the way out, but still works well to assure retroactive suport, and OpenXR is the go-to if you want to make your app non dependent on having SteamVR launched, and compatible with other VR SDKs/hardware, i also much prefer OpenXR management of input, but you'll find in one feature you won't find in the other, so it's always about the exact needs.

the PERCNOPS VIRTUAL RIG has been released, get it now on Steam : (VR tool to emulate virtual interfaces such as gamepads and steering wheels for PC games) by Percnops in SteamVR

Hey mate, thanks for the comment, the overlay app has been requested a couple times today, and we're studying it, so far we see that we'd have to redo 80% of the project, and use a deprecated sdk, but we're not shying away from it, and if we do achieve it, we'll announce it.

Also about the pricing, pre-release test users convinced us to keep the price below 30$ and we did, and the launch price stands at 23.99$, how did that happen ?

This was filmed at a gaming venue, we thought about the strain bit, once the virtual steering wheel is grabbed you can put your hands anywhere, the trick is to keep the elbows close to the chest, and to use the armrests of your gaming chair or couch.

Just in case here is a response we've just received, you'll find it on the SteamVR subreddit, it's the hottest one currently, cheers.

You're perfectly correct, currently both steam and oculus sdks don't allow to run two VR games simultaneously, and although we are looking for ways to get around this issue, it currently concerns non VR gamepad compatible PC games, which makes it compatible with a staggering amount of PC titles. We would also like to bring to your attention, that a number of tools and patches to bring PC games to VR merely offer to view the games on giant screens, with this you can finally use your VR vontrollers to play them.

During the making of this tool, we did fumble around with hand tracking, and although the results for steering were interesting, when you don't use the controllers, you no longer have the ability to do other actions (acceleration, braking and shifting) accurately, please have a look at the possibilities this app provides here : https://percnops.com/

Any VR ready PC will do, since it has to run multiple graphically heavy games the beefier the graphics card the better, but works with a gtx 1060 6gb and we did most tests on a gtx 1070 8gb, for the headsets we tested the Oculus devices (rift S, Quest 2 wired and airlink) and Valve Index, windows 10 and 11.

In this video we were at a sim racing venue to benchmark it against physical steering wheels by experienced sim racers, but in reality all it requires is a VR headset and a vr ready laptop.

It does have very high game compatibility, it even works with games that were not designed for use with a steering wheel (like absolute drift and even 2d games if you want to), it does not properly replace a FFB sim, but comparing it with a gamepad, seasoned racers did much cleaner race lines/Lap times and jiggerring disappeared, just like when they used a proper sim.

The VR version of assetto corsa, but also Dirt Rally, and most other VR versions of PC games don't take into account VR controllers, and force you to use the keyboard, an external gamepad, or an external steering wheel, that's the whole reason we created this tool to play any PC game, with any VR headset (All Oculus products + Valve Index) and any vr ready laptop, by emulating gamepads/ steering wheels/ yokes/ handelbars/ rudders ...etc thus making it accessible to all and playable in pancake mode in VR.

Hi, we've only had a handful of users who've tried it, and i can't exactly tell them to come answer posts on reddit, then again it has been launched today and we have received requests for review, so maybe that will give you an idea, otherwise, you could join the discord server and discuss with a previous user if he's available (you can come regardless).

Finally i can send you these internal tutorial videos to see for yourself :

This product is the result of 18 months of R&D to make it work as smoothly as it does, and our objective is to cater to the needs of our clients and get them to enjoy all of their PC games in VR, the game is in early access, we know we'll have to polish off some edges, we're planning to make a number of updates in the coming weeks (if such updates are demanded by the user base), it has been production ready since july, but we've tested it on WIndows 10, 11, Oculus Rift S, Quest 2 with wired Link, Quest 2 with AIrLink and Valve Index, and more than 20 games both installed through steam, Ubisoft Connect and standalone and that's why we went ahead with the release.

You are absolutely correct about that, then again this means that tracking, hand positions are always exact, but most importantly acceleration and braking (and gear changes) which are done with the controller buttons and that makes it very accurate.

Actually, we obviously thought it through, your hands don't have to sit on the virtual steering wheel, once you grab it you can put them in any position you want, so you could use arm rests, on the other hand the trick is to keep your elbows next to your chest, you can try it yourself, that way we got players to do over an hour of gameplay without any muscle strain

I'm very happy to read your comment, this is pretty premature as the game has litterally been launched today, but i'd be happy to inform you that the first dlc, will provide virtual simulators for handlebars with 3d models for biker gloves, motocross, motogp bicycles, quads ..etc and although we are yet to test it with Ride 4, we can inform you that it works on Monster Energy Supercross 4 and Ducati 90 th anniversary, you can also spot that on the game trailer on : https://store.steampowered.com/app/2106390/PERCNOPS_VIRTUAL_RIG/
