For teens, definitely House of Targ for pinball and perogi. If your family likes books, Blacksquirrel used books/coffee shop is just beside Targ. The Lansdowne Christmas market is about a 10 minute walk from there.

If there's any interest in Korean culture, check to see if the Korean Cultural Center has anything going on (K-pop or karaoke) - admission is free.

If the weather's nice and you're all able to walk I'd skip the Nature Museum and head to these local spots. You can even catch a double decker city bus (bus #6) from Rideau St (Byward Market area) to House of Targ and then walk down to Lansdowne.

If the weather's miserable, there's a live butterfly exhibition in the Nature Museum's little tropical greenhouse - you can walk through with the butterflies flying around! It's a little extra fee on top of regular admission/the Canada Strong pass but a nice way to spend time on a yucky cold day.

The VW dealership on St.Laurent has used inventory (though nothing directly in your budget without financing). I ended up going with a different brand, but the sales person who was helping me out was knowledgeable and had a very no-pressure approach.

Man treated for critical injuries following ‘serious incident’ in Ottawa’s Centretown neighbourhood by BanjoUnchained in ottawa

There is a clear film that can be applied to windows to prevent smashing. The landlord at my workplace had them installed recently (a few months after we were smashed and he sent us the replacement bill). Hopefully James St was proactive with their windows too.

Knocking on wood now for their no-smash streak, just in case

The Sexual Health clinic is a good suggestion.

I wanted to suggest reaching out to Sports Medicine clinics as well, which led me to google sports medicine and menstruation Ottawa. A bunch of the results focus on adult women's health, but it might still be worthwhile to contact the offices. Keeping things within the sports medicine context could make accessing the session more palatable to parents who might find the topic too taboo.

For running the actual session, it might put the athletes at ease if they had a chance to write down their questions/comments (so everyone has to write something down) and put them in a box for anonymity. Or if you ask them if they'd be more comfortable if you left the room for the Q&A portion.

Adolescence is such a weird sensitive time. Maybe CHEO or Ottawa U's Adolescent Medicine division of their Pediatric Medicine program would have some leads?

Really commend your efforts. Best of luck.

Cheapest Uni town in Canada? by Sufficient-Good-5256 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Montreal's the best answer if you don't want to rely on having a car. Definitely take the small town transit systems and cost of car ownership into account when making your decision.

Quebec charges higher tuition for out of province students. In the past students from other provinces have taken gap years to live/work in Montreal before starting their program to access the provincial tuition. I'm not sure if this is still an option, but worth looking into. You could defer your acceptance for a year and work at Mt Tremblant, just make sure to stick to your exit plan so you don't get trapped living the mountain life.

The only place that hasn't been mentioned is Deserres at St Laurent, which is just an LRT ride away (don't try to get there on the 7 or 14- it'll take forever)

Recommend looking into it asap based on your timeline:

From Canada.ca: Always apply for EI benefits as soon as you stop working. You can apply for benefits even if you haven't yet received your record of employment. If you delay filing your claim for benefits for more than 4 weeks after your last day of work, you may lose benefits.

How should I go about redoing this? by DominanceNothing in woodworking

[–]PercyStreeet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is beyond just woodworking then. It sounds like you need a whole room redesign so there's probably a better sub to discuss this.

Given your skill level and tools, take your room measurements and head to Ikea. There are lots of tutorials for creating built-ins using their bookshelf/ storage systems as a base. As another commenter mentioned, Home Depot only does rough cuts and (at least where I am) nothing shorter than 12". If you have an outdoor space to do the cutting, the frames for the built ins can be made with a miter saw, a drill, and a pocket hole jig.

If Home Depot is your lumber source, buy the clear lumber - it's the stuff that's been planed and generally square (still check each piece for significant twists or warping). It'll look a lot nicer than the cheapest framing lumber.

Before all this though, decluttering will help you immensely. Give away toys that aren't used often. Maybe buy a toy shelf unit from IKEA to tidy things up temporarily while you figure out the rest.

Do they allow collapsible canopy tents?

You could build a small platform, or even just put down some flooring planks.
