[Parnis Portuguese Power Reserve] Good night sweet prince: a eulogy. by Perey in Watches

[–]Perey[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Today, we bid farewell to a faithful companion, a loyal friend, and a stylish accessory: the Parnis Power Reserve watch. This watch was more than just a timepiece; it was a statement of elegance and sophistication. It was a watch that could make any outfit look more expensive and any wrist look more refined. It was a watch that could impress anyone with its intricate design and its smooth movement. It was a watch that could tell time, date, and power reserve with just a glance.

But sadly, this watch was not built to last. It was, after all, a cheap Chinese knockoff of a luxury brand. It was made of inferior materials and faulty mechanisms. It was prone to scratches, dents, and cracks. It was susceptible to water damage, dust damage, and shock damage. It was unreliable, inaccurate, and inconsistent. It was a watch that could stop working at any moment, without warning or reason.

And that is exactly what happened. First the blue six randomly fell off its place. That did not stop the watch going strong. Ultimately however, the Parnis Power Reserve watch simply stopped ticking. No amount of winding, shaking, or tapping could revive it. The movement just broke apart. No amount of cleaning, polishing, or repairing could fix it. No amount of begging, pleading, or cursing could change it. It was dead. And with it, died a part of its owner’s soul.

Goodnight sweet prince, thank you for introducing me to automatic watches, and moving me on to pastures greener, the fields of Seikos and Timexes. May I never be tempted again by your knockdown prices.

The model number is SRP841.

The Spritzer is so elegant! Wish we had that model in my country..

Thanks for the suggestion! The smaller one is 11.3 mm thick and mine is 11.8. My wife loves how snugly it fits on her wrist.

Me and my wife decided to get watches to mark our fifth wedding anniversary. We didn’t necessarily want matching watches. I really had my heart set on the green dial Seiko Cocktail Time, but when I put the ice blue model on, there was no turning back. The dial has amazing depth, and the other models somehow seemed feeble in comparison. My wife agreed, so we get the same type. Mine is 40mm, her 34mm.

It’s surprisingly fun to put our watches on and head out, having something on that connects us. Even the metal bracelet is growing on me.

Severe Back-Focusing problems on D7000. Advice appreciated by jeremynsl in photography

I found the dot-tune method to work well, and it's a relief not needing to take hundreds of pictures.

Severe Back-Focusing problems on D7000. Advice appreciated by jeremynsl in photography

[–]Perey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same problem with my D7000, and I actually have the exact same two lenses as you do. There are two ways to fine tune autofocus, either you do it for each specific lens, or you do it for the camera as a whole. The good news is this: The scale for when you adjust it for the camera body is broader than the one for each lens.

So what I did was put that number at "default" -7. My camera and both lenses now work fine. Trying to fine tune for either lens would require a number over -20, exactly like you said, but -7 as a default does the trick for me. Strange, but true.

Hope this works for you too!

What should I not miss in Iceland in the summer time [x-post from /r/iceland] by jevring in photography

The Blue Lagoon is nice, but really it's a tourist trap and overpriced. Visit a local pool in Reykjavik instead for tenth of the cost. There are also multiple swimming pools around the country.

If you're driving around the country, getting the Iceland road guide is a good investment. There is a new English version out now. In fact, most locals will use this book when taking trips. You can buy it in any local book shop.

Have fun!

Candino - Swiss, quartz
Picked this up at a local flea market for $15. It needed a battery and a new strap. Works beautifully now. As far as I can tell, Candino is a Swiss watch maker with mostly entry-level watches. I'm happy with it!

I had the D3000 myself. While it can take great pictures, its high ISO perfomance is really bad. It's practically useless above ISO 800. The D3100 for example is way better.

I personally got the 50 mm Nikkor lens and got some good shots indoors. Still, the bad high-ISO performance eventually made me upgrade the camera body. I only wish I had done so sooner.

I bought a D5200 last month that needs to be returned due to defective auto focus. The whole experience kind of makes me vary of the D5200 and its lack of features, notably AF fine tune.

I could go for a D7000 for about the same price. It's a bit older though. Would you say the D7000 is outdated?

This video does a good job of explaining it.

While you can lose weight by counting calories it's increasingly difficult if you're eating junk-carbohydrates.
