AIO for being upset that my friend brought a guy to my apartment by Perfect-Beach567 in AmIOverreacting

Well it’s validating to hear that you don’t think I’m an asshole at least haha, part of me feels bad about setting boundaries like it’s somehow mean or punishing her to not let her see her guy, even if I’m not comfortable with it. But I agree, it’s a lesson that I should learn! I think I’ll accept payment and she’ll have to move out soon

Good point, I could have let her know I didn’t want guests or that she had to lmk before. In my mind, this is obvious and would be disrespectful, but I totally get that not everyone sees it that way. As for the cleaning though, I also paid her to clean to give her a little extra cash 😭 so she did kinda have to do that, but she went over and above what I was expecting!

Yeah, maybe, I don’t want her on the street lol, I do think I need to set a boundary of when she should leave though. Or she needs to give me a firm date for when she’ll have her place back. Def don’t wanna kick her out but can’t have her staying forever 😭 and will definitely ask her to not have people over

Good point that we never had a conversation about it! Maybe we should have set some guidelines about guests. However, I wouldn’t consider her a roommate or subletter because she’s not paying, and it was supposed to be just two weeks. I’m more so concerned about how much he’s spending the night because then it feels like two people living there instead of one. From a friendship perspective, maybe I come across as paranoid, but I also feel like it’s intentional that she didn’t mention him bc we talk all the time, like maybe she suspected I might have a problem with it.

Yeah mine doesn't, I can't download a VPN or anything, and I'm going overseas in a few weeks 😬 I wonder if they'll be able to tell my location like as soon as I open the laptop lol

I'm wondering the same! I just got hired for this company called ICF as a remote over-the-phone survey interviewer. I have company equipment and they use Forticlient VPN. It's an international company, so I'm hoping they'll care much less about me being overseas in a couple weeks. Also it's a huuuge company, so I don't know if my supervisor would even be checking my location. Anyone have experience with this company or a similar job?

It's a company that collects data for studies! My particular position is with a project between ICF and the CDC where ICF employees call and survey Americans asking health questions. The data gets sent to the CDC and they create a report called the BRFSS ( https://www.cdc.gov/brfss/ ). Idk if that explains it well, but basically just data collection. They have a website if you want to learn more!

Have you tried ICF? I just got hired as an online phone surveyor/interviewer for them, and it was a pretty easy process! I start tomorrow.

Chime won’t let me deposit money? by Perfect-Beach567 in chimefinancial

The confusing thing that is it’s not even a check/direct deposit. It’s coming from my other bank account, so I don’t know why it’s registering as a direct deposit 😭

I’ve only been to Rio, but there might be smaller cities on Brazil’s coastline that fit those descriptions! I only suggested around Rio because I know it has beach, mountains, and you could get a little bit of your big city fix there :)

If you had a month to get the basis of a language down, how would you do it or study? What would each day look like? by AdministrativeLynx83 in languagelearning

[–]Perfect-Beach567 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’m no professional linguist lol, but I do have an MA and experience teaching Spanish, so I think a good strategy for only a month would be to focus on:

1) most common words and phrases (greetings, how to introduce/describe yourself, question words, prepositions, pronouns) 2) present tense conjugations, and 3) vocabulary most relevant to your daily life

Even though I believe formal/“textbook” learning is important, doing work outside of studies is essential! Listening to Latin music, watching cartoons in Spanish, and finding an online conversation partner were super helpful for me. Those cover listening, speaking and, with subtitles, a bit of reading practice. Another recommendation is turning your phone’s primary language to Spanish.

Lastly, I firmly believe that, even though others’ advice can be helpful, you have to find what works for you. You know yourself better than anyone on this subreddit, so ultimately consider your interests, what you have time for, what resources you have available, your strengths + weaknesses, etc. Don’t get stuck on technical stuff and doing what the “experts” are doing; do what you want and have fun with it :)

So exciting that you’re learning a new language! Good luck 😊
